New York Jets @ New England Patriots
Monday December 6, 2010 – 8:30 PM ET
Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
Broadcast: ESPN
MNF Odds: Jets +3.5, Patriots -3.5
Total: 45.5
New England took an early lead in the first meeting between these teams in mid-September, only for New York to storm back with three touchdowns to prevail 28-14. The Jets have won three of the last four dating back to 2008, but will be in tough against a Patriots’ team that is undefeated at home this season.
MNF Odds: What The Jets Will Have To Do To Win?
Consecutive overtime victories against the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns in games that the Jets were expected to have no problem with provided the break that New York needed to put together their recent four-game winning streak. They have gotten better in each of those weeks, with a 26-10 over the Cincinnati Bengals last Thursday that featured a stingy New York defense that allowed just 163 total yards. Wide receiver Brad Smith had a huge game with a couple of touchdowns, one on a 53-yard run, the other on an 89-yard kickoff return. The Jets will have a tougher time moving the ball against the Patriots, and if they are going to have a chance to get ahead in this one, quarterback Mark Sanchez will need to be at his best the way he was when he threw three touchdowns in their initial match up. Their run game ranks second in the league, but the air attack will need to take advantage of the 32nd ranked pass defense.
MNF Odds: What Patriots Will Have To Do To Win?
A shocking loss to the Cleveland Browns is the only blemish on the Patriots’ record over the past two months, with consecutive wins over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts the highlight of their season. New England will need to step up its play on both sides of the ball the same way they did in those two wins, against a Jets’ team they have struggled against in the past. There was a dramatic fall off on offense between the first and second halves of the loss in New York earlier this season, and quarterback Tom Brady will need to show the consistency he has in recent weeks to finish strong.
MNF Odds: Outlook & Pick
The Patriots have been the best team in the AFC this season as illustrated by their wins over the Steelers and Colts. However, it was New York that got the best of them the first time these teams met. It will be a different story this weekend however, as the Patriots even the season series with a big win in front of their home fans at Gillette Stadium.
MNF Odds Pick: Patriots -3.5
