MNF Betting – Pivotal NFC East Showdown on Monday Night
October 23, 2010
The Dallas Cowboys have certainly defied the MNF Betting odds this season. Despite having the third ranked offense and fourth ranked defense in the NFL, they are a miserable 1-4.
Monday night sees possibly the best team in the NFC East coming to town. The New York Giants have quietly put together a three game winning streak and have emerged as the team to beat in the always competitive NFC East.

The New York Giants are 4-2 this season but for some reason, they are MNF Betting underdogs on Monday night. Currently they rank in the Top 10 of nearly every offensive and defensive category in the NFL. They bring a diversified offense and a rejuvenated defense in to face the desperate Cowboys.
Eli Manning certainly isn’t putting up Hall of Fame numbers this season but he is doing enough – limiting mistakes and giving what opposing defenses give him. With an incredible stable of receivers, Manning has been the quintessential game manager so far.
Manning has benefitted from an improved and consistent running game. Ahmad Bradshaw has elevated his game and now has an NFC best 582 yards rushing on the season. Brandon Jacobs has fallen from his elite status but for my MNF Betting dollar is one of the better change-of-pace backs in the NFC.
New York’s return to prominence can be attributed to their better defensive play. Health and the absence of any sort of distraction have put the Giants back in the Top Tier of NFL defenses.
They are the best unit in the NFC when it comes to yards allowed per game (264.8) and they have been able to generate pressure on the opposing quarterback in every game.
The Dallas Cowboys are off to their worst start in 21 years. Penalties (62) and game changing mistakes have hindered a team that statistically, should be better than 1-4. All four of their losses have come by seven points or fewer!
The Cowboys offense is ranked third in the NFL with 400 yards per game. Tony Romo has been solid, not spectacular. But like the rest of the team, he is prone to mistakes that have cost them games.
Romo, Miles Austin, Roy Williams, Dez Bryant and Jason Whitten have all been good this season but the numbers haven’t translated to wins.
Another year has brought more talk of the Cowboys commitment to the run. Another year has brought more disappointment for arguably one of the scariest running back trios in the NFL. The Cowboys haven’t generated much on the ground but hopes are that Felix Jones will be able to spark a sputtering unit.
On defense, the problem is simple. Despite ranking 4th in the NFL in total defense (281.4 yards surrendered per game), this unit has not been able to give their offense any short fields to work with. The Boys have only generated four turnovers in the five games that they have played this season.
MNF Betting Outlook:
The Giants are 4-2 S/U so far this season and are 17-8 S/U in their last 25 games on the road. However, New York is just 2-5 S/U and ATS in their last seven on the road 5-12 ATS in their last 17 away from home. The Giants are 4-1 S/U in their last five games against Dallas.
The Dallas Cowboys are 1-5 S/U and ATS in their last six games but are 12-5 S/U in their last 17 games at home. They are 1-4 S/U and ATS in their last five games against the Giants.
Many feel that the MNF Betting Gods may finally smile on the Dallas Cowboys this week but I think differently. The Giants are a complete team and are full of confidence.
Eli Manning is 19-4 in his last 23 October games – he just doesn’t lose early in the season. Discipline and mistakes don’t fix themselves over night and the Giants have a knack of bringing the worst out in the Dallas Cowboys. I think that the whispers of Wade Philips demise will become shouts after this game.
MNF Betting Pick: New York Giants +2 ½
