MLB Weekend Update – Angels and Dodgers Try to Make a Statement
September 21, 2009
It’s all about the west coast this weekend as both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels could go a long way in determining their own fates, and the fates of two of their biggest rivals, by winning key series.
The Angels will strut their stuff against the Texas Rangers. With a 6 ½ game lead over the Rangers, the Angels’ A.L. West Division Championship may look assured, but the Rangers have been written before during this season and miracles can happen in baseball.
If the Halos aren’t careful, then the Rangers could shoot them out of the sky. An MLB bet on the Rangers this weekend, since they are at home and will be playing with a sense of desperation, could be the way to go for BetOnline online sportsbook baseball betting fans.
The other L.A. team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, don’t have that much at stake straight-up against the San Francisco Giants, but a lot at stake in regards to winning the N.L. West Division. The Dodgers are 5 games ahead of the Colorado Rockies and that cushion seems like enough, but the Rockies have upset the apple cart in the past and the Dodgers had better keep their mind on business. Besides, beating up on the G-Men, their biggest rivals, is something they should want to do anyhow. That, and the fact that L.A. desperately needs home field advantage in order to keep Philadelphia and St. Louis from taking them out, is another reason for the Dodgers to really go after San Francisco this weekend.
Two series involving two teams from the land of fruits and nuts. How much more exciting can it get?
St. Louis Tries to Get Back on Track
The St. Louis Cardinals have gone 1 and 5 out of their last 6 games straight-up in the sportsbook. That record against the spread (straight-up and against the spread is the same in baseball because of the run line wager), should make them a tough bet this weekend against their top rivals, the Chicago Cubs, right? Wrong.
I actually see St. Louis running away in this series and getting back on track. The Cardinals are still the best team in the N.L. in my estimation and Manager Tony LaRussa won’t allow his team to fall into a much worse streak then they are already in.
The Cards should be profitable for baseball bettors this weekend against the Cubs.
BoSox No Lock Against Baltimore
The Boston Red Sox have gone 8 and 2 straight-up against the spread in their last 10 games. The BoSox will be big favorites against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend, but betting fans should tread carefully when plopping money on Boston in the sportsbook. The Red Sox have been on a great streak, the type of streak that could end at any moment, and the Orioles have popped the Red Sox when they aren’t looking a couple times this year.
If Boston isn’t careful, then Baltimore could get to them. That wouldn’t be a good thing because the Rangers are still dangerous and could get within three games of the Red Sox for the wildcard spot in the A.L.
