MLB Week 3 – Hot or Not – Red-Hot Rays, Lowly Teams, Top Weekly List

April 27, 2010

With the 2010 MLB regular season now three weeks old, this look at the hottest – and coldest – ATS teams in all of baseball, will put pro baseball betting enthusiasts on the right track to making a plethora of winning wagers in the MLB sportsbook over the course of the coming week.

This week’s MLB hot or not list features a handful of lowly ballclubs on the ‘Hot’ portion of the list, but just a few ballclubs on the ‘Not’ list.

With a nearly full slate of MLB action taking place tonight, let me get started.

Hot – The teams have won at least four of their last five games to consistently put money in MLB bettors’ pockets.

Tampa Bay Rays 4-1
The Rays have gone 4-1 over their last five games to improve on their MLB-best 14-5 record while winning two straight over Toronto heading into Monday night. Gifted third baseman Evan Longoria is batting .324 and the Rays have baseball’s top-ranked offense (5.95 rpg).

Houston Astros 4-1
Despite still owning a sub-.500 record, (8-10) the Astros have won four of its last five games. Roy Oswalt has gone 2-2 with a fine 2.42 ERA and the ‘Stros have won two straight heading into Monday night.

Chicago Cubs 4-1
The Cubbies have won four of five to move closer to .500 (9-10) thanks to Marlon Byrd (.338, 3 HR) and Kosuke Fukudome (.333, 3 HR). Chicago sits just outside the top 10 in both, offense (11th) and defense (12th).

San Diego Padres 4-1
The Padres had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Sunday but have been absolutely incendiary for the better part of the last two weeks. San Diego has the fourth-best team ERA thanks to guys like Wade LeBlanc, Edward Mujica and Tim Stauffer (who?) not to mention some timely hitting from slugger Adrian Gonzalez (.317, 6 HR).

New York Mets 4-1
I know it’s hard to believe, but the Mets have just topped the .500 mark (10-9) by winning each of their last four games heading into Monday night while winning six of seven overall. New York right-hander Michael Pelfrey has recorded an unblemished 4-0 mark with a phenomenal 0.69 ERA to lead the way.

Not – Each of these ballclubs have failed to win four of their last five games and are ballclubs MLB betting fans will need to keep a close eye on over the course of the coming week.

Pittsburgh Pirates 0-5
Losers of six consecutive games heading into Monday night, the Pirates will apparently be playing ‘How Low Can You Go’ all season long – for the umpteenth consecutive season.

Atlanta Braves 0-5
The Braves are in a big rut, having lost five straight games heading into Monday night, including a three-game sweep at the hands of the Mets. Atlanta’s 25th-ranked offense is struggling in a big way and is ranked in the bottom third in every significant offensive category.

Baltimore Orioles 1-4
The Orioles (3-16) should probably be demoted to the Triple A level, but hey, that’s just me. While the O’s snapped a five-game losing streak by narrowly beating Boston on Sunday, things are not looking good in Baltimore at all.
