MLB Prop Betting – 2011 World Series Picks

March 16, 2011

It’s fun to make MLB prop bets before Opening Day! Let’s take an early look at the teams most likely to meet up in the 2011 World Series.

The Major League Baseball futures in the Sportsbook favor a few solid teams to win the upcoming World Series.

To Win World Series:

-Reds vs. Red Sox +2000

-Phillies vs. Rangers +1400

-Phillies vs. Red Sox +400

-Phillies vs. Yankees +600

The Sportsbook clearly favors two teams heavily this preseason: the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Boston Red Sox failed to qualify for the postseason in 2010, finishing third overall in the American League East behind the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees, with a record of 89-73.

But things look to be on the up this season for Boston with a slew of strong pitchers on the rotation, as long as the bats click. Boston opens its season at Fenway Park against the defending American League champions, the Texas Rangers.

If the Red Sox can take the American League East division this season over the Yankees, it is quite likely the team won’t be stopped before the World Series, as even the Rangers are not likely to outpitch Boston.

The Philadelphia Phillies, with the strongest starting rotation in all of baseball, will be a force to be reckoned with this season, which is clearly why this team is favored early over the World Series champions, the San Francisco Giants. Adding Cliff Lee to the already-strong group of Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt, the odds favor the Phillies to be the National League representative in the 2011 World Series.

Last season, the Phillies finished the regular season with a 97-65 record and won the National League Division Series over the Cincinnati Reds before the team fell to the Giants in the National League championship.

The Phillies will be back with a vengeance in 2011, so be sure to include Philadelphia in your preseason MLB prop bets.
