MLB Power Rankings – L.A. is Still Tops but not for Long
May 11, 2009
Manny Ramirez was screwing someone when handed a 50 game suspension by Bud Selig for using a female fertility drug, The Los Angeles Dodgers.
Its not exactly clear but from what I’ve read and heard, the drug is used to help men on steroids produce their own testosterone. In any case, the whole things sounds too Island of Dr. Moreau like to me.
Regardless, the suspension had an immediate effect on the Dodgers who promptly lost their very next game after the judgment was levied, ending their record start of 13-0. What’s worse is that it came to the lowly Nationals and they then went on to loose two of three to their in-state rival Padres.
Despite still sitting on top of the power rankings, don’t plan on seeing the boys in blue there for much longer.
MLB Betting: Power Rankings
- L.A. Dodgers, 22-11 ATS +899 units 19-14 RL +832 units – - The Dodgers have been the team to beat in the N.L. this year. They were practically unbeatable since the season started but now are without Manny’s power until July. They no doubt need to make up for the loss but have a solid all around batting line-up so they could be alright. A bright spot has been that their pitching has been much better than expected.
- Toronto Blue Jays, 22-12 ATS +934 units 16-18 RL -258 units – - The Blue Jays are asking gamblers if they believe after running out to a lead in the A.L. East Division. Well, we’re going to find out because they play the New York Yankees next before taking on the Chicago White Sox this week. On the run line, Toronto is awful, but those units won straight-up cannot be ignored.
- St. Louis Cardinals, 20-12 ATS +596 units 18-14 RL +629 units – - The rumblings have already started in the Midwest that the next shoe to drop from Selig’s office will fall right on top of Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols who has been awesome this season. It would be a shame, not surprising, but a shame because Pujols is batting .330 with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs this season.
- Kansas City Royals, 18-14 ATS +586 units 22-10 RL +1527 units – - Pitcher Zack Greinke finally lost a game this season when his team couldn’t muster a single run and they lost 1-0. It’s a shame because Greinke pitched brilliantly in a complete game loss to the L.A. Angels. KC continues to make money for gamblers which is why they’re ranked so highly.
- Boston Red Sox, 20-12 ATS +469 units 17-15 RL +496 units – - The Red Sox are winning on the money line and on the run line. That’s the most important information for bettors. Oh, yes, they’re also only a couple games behind the Blue Jays for the lead in the A.L. East Division.
- Texas Rangers, 17-14 +496 units 18-13 +306 units – - Texas finds themselves atop the A.L. West Division. Okay, they’re tied with the Angels, but just the fact that Texas is above .500 right now is a surprise. The Rangers have a pretty good team and could be a nice team for gamblers to bet for most of this season.
- Cincinnati Reds, 17-14 +481 units 20-11 +912 units – - The N.L. Central is ridiculous right now with four teams within three games of each other for the lead. The Reds have to be considered the most surprising. They beat the Cardinals in 2 out of 3 last week.
- Los Angeles Angels, 16-14 ATS +402 units 16-14 RL +222 units – - The Angels have turned the corner. They are now only a ½ game behind the Rangers after sweeping the Royals. They have a key series starting this week against the Boston Red Sox, but should they prove tough against Boston, they most likely will take the lead in the A.L. West.
- Milwaukee Brewers, 18-14 +387 units 17-15 +256 units – - The Brewers have suddenly solidified themselves as a player in the N.L. Central after taking down the Chicago Cubs 2 games to 1 in their last 3 game series. They face the reeling Florida Marlins next.
- Detroit Tigers, 17-13 +367 units 16-14 +109 units – - Detroit is tied with Kansas City for the A.L. Central lead. The Tigers haven’t been super impressive but sweeping Cleveland was a nice way to give some profits to gamblers. They face Minnesota next.
