MLB Power Rankings – Dodgers, Cardinals and Blue Jays keep pace
May 5, 2009
Another week in Major League Baseball brought almost the same results with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals continuing to stay atop the BetOnline online sportsbook MLB Power Rankings.
The Dodgers actually played well enough in the past week to leapfrog the Cardinals and take the top spot, but that didn’t leave the Cardinals in the second spot. The second spot belongs to the Toronto Blue Jays who have kept a one game lead over the Boston Red Sox in the A.L. East Division.
Let’s take a look at the power rankings.
MLB: Power Rankings
- Los Angeles Dodgers 18-8 ATS +932 units, 15-11 RL +586 units – - The Dodgers just keep winning. At 18 and 8 they have the best record in MLB right now and because they play in the N.L. West, they could keep the best record in MLB for the entire season. They swept the San Diego Padres and now face the Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals this week.
- Toronto Blue Jays 18-9 ATS +843 unites, 12-15 RL -401 units – - Toronto still leads in the A.L. East after sweeping the Baltimore Orioles. Because of that, they should be ranked second, but they haven’t faced anyone of note and their record on the run line isn’t very impressive. Still, they have the third best record in baseball right now and are second in units won ATS. That has to count for something, right?
- St. Louis Cardinals 17-8 ATS +768 units, 15-10 +773 units – - It was business as usual for the Cardinals who have gone 2-1 against the Cubs, 2-1 against Atlanta, and 2-1 against Washington in their last 9 games. St. Louis is exceptional on the run line which means they are usually a good wager every night. A two game series against the Philadelphia Phillies starts on Monday.
- Seattle Mariners 15-10 ATS +540 units, 15-10 RL +489 units – - The A.L. West leading Seattle Mariners continue to impress and should have a good week with two games coming up against the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals. With their pitching, Seattle could actually win the A.L. West after last season’s terrible record.
- Kansas City Royals 14-11 ATS +503 units, 18-7 RL +1849 units – - Seattle? Uh…what about the Royals? Sure, it’s still early, but a terrific record ATS and against the run line makes the Royals one of the top wagers so far this MLB Season. They’ve been holding their own against the best in the A.L. Central Division so far and could make this year interesting if they keep playing well.
- Florida Marlins 14-11 ATS +354 units, 13-12 RL -46 units – - The Marlins have fallen back to the pack big time. They went 1 and 3 versus the Chicago Cubs in their last and face Cincinnati and Atlanta, both teams could challenge them, before taking over the sad Colorado Rockies. The Marlins, Braves, Phillies and Mets all have a chance to win the N.L. East this year.
- Cincinnati Reds 13-11 ATS +366, 15-9 RL +525 – - They’re barely above .500 in the win department but ATS, they are fantastic for units won, and on the run line they’ve been an exceptional play so far this season. They might be one of the best plays in baseball for a long time this year.
- Boston Red Sox 15-10 ATS +261 units, 13-12 RL +278 units – - The Red Sox are an impressive team and no doubt should eventually overtake the Toronto Blue Jays in the A.L. East Division. But they did go 1 and 3 against the Tampa Bay Rays recently which means the BoSox could be looking at a potential wildcard berth once it’s all said and done. The Rays, meanwhile, need to keep their focus.
- Pittsburgh Pirates 12-12 ATS +229 units, 16-8 RL +939 units – - The Pirates are approaching that bet on us blind on the run line status, much like the Kansas City Royals, because the Sportsbook keeps making them big underdogs. When they win against the run line, or against the spread, they are really helping backers increase that bank roll. It’s time to start thinking of Pittsburgh and Kansas City as baseball betting gems for 2009.
- Detroit Tigers 13-11 ATS +138 units, 12-12 RL -68 units – - Detroit has a shot to win the A.L. Central Division and more than likely will after clawing their way to a game behind the Royals. They get to separate themselves against the Twins and White Sox in their division because that’s who comprises their next four games.
