Cardinals Jump to Top of Power Rankings
Two N.L. teams are tops in the BetOnline Sportsbook MLB Power Rankings this week after making their marks against stiff competition.
In particular, the St. Louis Cardinals were fantastic against sportsbook pre-season favorites, the New York Mets. The Dodgers got to hand it to the Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies.
Another mover is Boston which is now tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the top spot in the A.L. East Division.
Let’s get to the MLB Power Rankings.
- St. Louis Cardinals 13-6 ATS +549 units 11-8 RL +533 units – - St. Louis swept the Mets and won 2 out of 3 against the Cubs last week. No, it’s not too early in the season to take these guys very seriously as N.L. pennant and possible World Series contenders.
- Los Angeles Dodgers 13-5 ATS +673 units 12-7 +687 units – - I rank St. Louis higher because of the competition that the Dodgers have faced. Beating up on Colorado and Houston is not the same as beating up on the Mets and the Cubs, but facts are facts. And the facts are that the Dodgers have been extremely profitable for bettors this season. They deserve the second spot in the power rankings.
- Seattle Mariners 12-6 ATS +694 units 13-5 RL +839 units – - The Mariners are for real. After going 2 and 1 against Tampa Bay, they beat the L.A. Angels two games in a row. It’s time for bettors to consider the Mariners a definite team to back in most games this season in baseball.
- Boston Red Sox 11-6 ATS +262 units 9-8 RL +224 units – - The Red Sox aren’t making gamblers rich but they are starting to show the consistency that has made them one of the top teams to bet on in the past few years. I see the BoSox improving even more than they did last week when they won 4 against Baltimore, 2 against Minnesota, and 3 against the New York Yankees.
- Toronto Blue Jays 14-6 ATS +733 units 10-10 RL +139 units – - The Blue Jays still lead the A.L. East even though the Boston Red Sox look ready to take charge. Toronto won 2 out of 3 against Texas and 2 out of 3 against the Chicago White Sox. A series coming up against the Kansas City Royals means that the winning should continue.
- Florida Marlins 11-7 ATS +368 units 10-8 RL +218 units – - Florida had a bad week losing three to Pittsburgh and three to Philadelphia, but they still lead the N.L. East Division and so deserve this ranking.
- Pittsburgh Pirates 10-7 ATS +476 units 12-5 RL +913 units – - The Pirates probably wont keep this up, but the +913 units on the run line is absolutely fantastic. Pittsburgh swept the Florida Marlins and went 2 and 1 out of 3 against the Atlanta Braves. If Pittsburgh keeps this up, then no doubt they will be considered the biggest surprise of 2009.
- Detroit Tigers 9-8 ATS +192 units 9-9 RL -180 units – - They’re leading the A.L. Central Division which means they deserve to be ranked, but the losses on the run line are just terrible. Still, Detroit beat the Royals twice and took a game against the Angels last week. They deserve some gambling money but only in spots.
- San Diego Padres 10-7 ATS +620 units 10-6 RL +492 units – - The Padres continue to impress as long shots in most games they play. On the run line, the Padres have been exceptional. They went 2 and 1 against Philadelphia before losing twice to San Francisco last week.
- Cincinnati Reds 10-8 ATS +362 units 12-6 RL +448 units – - The Reds continue to impress. They beat the Chicago Cubs in 2 out of 3 before going 1 and 2 against Atlanta. The key is for gamblers to know when the Reds are a good bet or when they are a bad bet. They usually perform well when underdogs.
