MLB Picks – White Sox Send Buehrle to the Mound in Hopes of Shutting Down Cleveland
April 18, 2010
Game-night: 4/16/2010
First-pitch: 7:05 pm EST
The Chicago White Sox send ace Mark Buehrle to the mound in hopes of taking down the Cleveland Indians on Friday night. Chicago is the baseball bet favorite in the MLB sportsbook to beat the Indians. Even though they are the away team, the odds makers believe that Buehrle will, once again, be too much for the Indians to handle.
Sports gamblers seem to agree. Already the betting line, which opened at Chicago White Sox -130, is now Chicago White Sox -140. Buehrle is already 2 and 0 with a 2.40 ERA and a .93 WHIP. He dominated Cleveland, holding the Indians to only 3 hits in 7 innings, when the two teams faced off on April 5th. The ChiSox won that game 6 to 0.
Buehrle’s opponent on Friday night, Mitch Talbot, was roughed up in his first start of the season. Talbot only lasted 5 innings, giving up 6 hits, 1 home run, and 4 earned runs. Talbot’s ERA is 7.20. His WHIP is 2.20.
The baseball betting line for this game is below.
Chicago White Sox
Mark Buehrle – L -1 ½ +115 -140 O 9 +105
Cleveland Indians
Mitch Talbot – R +1 ½ -135 +120 U 9 -125
The trends say that it’s all White Sox in this game.
- The Chicago White Sox are 13 and 3 in Mark Buehrle’s last 16 games as the favorite.
- The Chicago White Sox are 4 and 1 in their last 5 road games versus a right-handed starter.
- The Cleveland Indians are 1 and 9 in their last 10 games as an underdog at home.
- The Cleveland Indians are 1 and 10 in their last 11 first games of a series.
The trends favor the ChiSox, Buehrle being on the mound favors the ChiSox…is there anything that doesn’t favor the ChiSox in this game?
Actually, no. What’s surprising is that the Chicago White Sox aren’t a bigger favorite than -140 on the money line at this point. 71% of sports gamblers believe that the White Sox will win this game.

I’m one of that 71%. Mark Buehrle no doubt is going to lose a few games this season, but I don’t think he loses his first tonight. He’s dominated the Indians the last two times he has faced them. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last 13 innings versus the Indians.
The White Sox have never faced Indians’ pitcher Mitch Talbot. Talbot’s only pitched in 4 major league games, starting 2 of those. His career ERA is 9.82. His career WHIP is 2.59. He shouldn’t have a chance against the White Sox on Friday night.
This is an easy game for me to call. I believe that Buehrle dominates again while the White Sox hitters get to Talbot early and often.
I’m making a baseball bet on the Chicago White Sox to win this game tonight.
