MLB Parlay Picks – Romero, Toronto Blue Jays at Niemann, Tampa Bay Rays

April 24, 2010

The Tampa Bay Rays will be looking to cash in as the right MLB betting pick and build on their impressive start when they host solid Toronto Blue Jays at Tropicana Field on Saturday at 6 PM ET.

Heading into Friday night, the Rays had won two straight while the Blue Jays had its two-game winning streak snapped the last time out.

Here is a look at tonight’s key head-to-head trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and expert MLB Expert Picks.

  • Under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Tampa Bay.
  • Under is 35-16 in the last 51 meetings.
  • Blue Jays are 7-20 in the last 27 meetings in Tampa Bay.
  • Blue Jays are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings.

Toronto 411
Blue Jays are 2-5 in Romero’s last 7 road starts.
Blue Jays are 2-5 in Romero’s last 7 starts vs. a team with a winning record.
Blue Jays are 1-4 in Romero’s last 5 road starts vs. a team with a winning record.
Blue Jays are 1-9 in Romero’s last 10 starts vs. American League East.

Tampa Bay 411
Rays are 4-1 in Niemann’s last 5 starts vs. American League East.
Rays are 4-1 in Niemann’s last 5 starts overall.
Rays are 8-3 in Niemann’s last 11 home starts.
Rays are 1-6 in Niemann’s last 7 starts vs. a team with a winning record.

The Starters: Ricky Romero has been absolutely phenomenal in each of his last two starts, following up a one-hitter against the Chicago White Sox on April 13 with another outstanding effort against the LA Angels on Sunday, limiting the Halos to just one earned run on five hits in eight strong innings on Sunday.

Although he was handed the loss due to a lack of run support, Romero has been nothing short of lights-out lately. Romero is 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 14 career innings against the Rays.

Tampa Bay’s Jeff Niemann a hulking 6-foot-9, 280 pound right-hander, has also been mostly spectacular over his three starts this season, not allowing more than three earned runs in any outing. Niemann limited the Boston Red Sox to two runs on five hits in seven innings to pick up his first win of the season on Monday. Niemann is 2-1 with a 4.87 ERA in three career starts against the Blue Jays; he is 7-3 with a 3.25 ERA in 16 appearances at Tropicana Field.

Analysis: While Toronto’s Ricky Romero has looked absolutely outstanding this season, Tamp Bay’s Jeff Niemann hasn’t been far behind as he’s looked very good himself this season.

I like the Tampa Bay Rays to win this contest behind a fine performance from Niemann as the Blue Jays have gone a dismal 2-5 in Romero’s last seven road starts and 1-4 in Romero’s last five road starts against a team with a winning record.

The Rays have gone 4-1 in Jeff Niemann’s last five starts against American League East ballclubs and 8-3 in Niemann’s last 11 home starts and are my pick to win this contest straight up, likely by one run.

In addition to playing the Rays to win this contest, I also like the Under to play out for pro baseball bettors as it has gone 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Tampa Bay.

Play the Rays to cover the MLB betting Money Line with the straight up home win while the Under plays out as well.
