The Braves were shut out by the Chicago Cubs in their 2-0 loss as -175 home favorites on Thursday while the final score played UNDER the 8-run O/U total. Tommy Hanson gave up two earned runs on four hits, including two home runs over 5.1 innings to get charged with the loss.
Tonight, Atlanta will hand the ball to veteran right-hander Tim Hudson (2-1, 3.61 ERA) as he looks to bounce back after an injury-riddled 2009.
San Francisco 411
- Giants are 6-0 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- Giants are 4-0 in their last 4 home games.
- Giants are 4-0 in Sanchez’s last 4 starts.
- Under is 4-1 in Giants last 5 vs. National League East.
- Under is 4-1-1 in Sanchez’s last 6 starts as a favorite.
The Giants rapped out a whopping19 hits in its 10-4 rout over the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Frisco completed the series sweep as a -135 favorite while the game’s 14 combined runs played well Over the 7.5-run O/U total.
Edgar Renteria went 5-for-5 with two runs batted in for the Giants while John Bowker added a two-run homer. Veteran relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt picked up the win in relief of Matt Cain.
Today, the Giants will hand the ball to talented, but often unfocused left-hander Jonathan Sanchez (8-12, 4.12 ERA).
Analysis: I’m going to get right to the point by saying that I like the Atlanta Braves to hand the Giants their first loss of the season in this contest, thanks in large part to Tim Hudson, arguably Atlanta’s best starting pitcher despite the fact that three other pitchers have made starts for Atlanta so far.
I know Frisco’s Jonathan Sanchez is incredibly talented and that he tossed a no-hitter just last season, but more often than not, the left-hander loses focus – and control over his pitches.
The Braves have gone a nearly perfect 4-1 in their last five road games versus a left-handed starter and a scorching 8-2 in their last 10 games as a road underdog.
I know the Giants are 6-0 in their last six games versus a right-handed starter and 4-0 in Sanchez’s last four starts, but the Braves have gone an identical 4-0 in Tim Hudson’s last four road starts and I believe the gifted, but oft-injured right-hander will keep the Giants at bay long enough for his teammates to put up enough runs and pull out the SU win.
In addition to playing the Braves to win this game straight up, I also like the Under as the other half of this MLB Parlay Pick.
The Under has gone 4-1 in Atlanta’s last five road games and an identical 4-1 in San Francisco’s last five games against National League East opponents.
Play the Atlanta Braves for the SU and the Under to play out in this MLB parlay pick.
