MLB Parlay Picks – Phillies vs Marlins and Cards vs Dodgers

June 9, 2010

Wednesday night’s MLB Parlay features four of the best arms in the National League. In Game 1, Roy Halladay in the Phillies will be taking on Josh Johnson and the Florida Marlins, while Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals will travel to Los Angeles to face Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in the second half of this MLB parlay. For those of you who like offense, these are not the games for you, but if you like masterful pitching performances, this parlay is right up your alley.

MLB Betting Line – Game 1:

Florida Marlins +1 ½ (-160) at Philadelphia Phillies -1 ½ (+140)

Wednesday, June 9 -7:05 PM ET

Over/Under – 6 ½

It seems like a long time ago that Roy Halladay (8-3, 2.03 ERA) tossed his perfect game, but that’s probably because of the Galarraga perfect game fiasco that has been all over every news outlet in the country. But one thing is for sure, a guy that hasn’t even come close to forgetting that performance is Josh Johnson (6-2, 2.10 ERA).

In case you’re memory is a little fuzzy from that night, it was Johnson that was on the hill for the Marlins less than two weeks ago when Halladay tossed his perfect game. What was also lost in that performance by Doc was that Johnson completed a remarkable seven-inning outing hiimself, allowing only one run.

Since that game, it has been the Phillies who have really stepped it up, especially on offense. And although Josh Johnson is clearly one of the best young arms in the MLB, he’s going up against possibly the best pitcher in all of baseball, for the second time in two weeks. I feel sorry for him, but my dollars don’t. Take the Phillies to beat up the Marlins a little bit, so my advice is to play the Phillies and the run line (-1 ½) +140.

MLB Betting Line – Game 2:

St Louis Cardinals +1 ½ (-225) at Los Angeles Dodgers -1 ½ (+185)

Wednesday, June 9 – 10:10 PM ET

Over/Under – 6 ½

In the second half of our MLB Parlay, Adam Wainwright (8-3 2.05 ERA) and the Cardinals will be looking to slow down the Los Angeles Dodgers who have won two straight over St. Louis so far in this series. The man the Cards are putting on the mound would be the right man for the job as he is currently tied for second in the National League in wins, fourth in ERA and third in strikeouts (85). He is also shooting for his third straight win, so Clayton Kershaw (5-3 3.06 ERA) is going to have his hands full tonight.

Kershaw, who was the Dodgers’ first-round pick in 2006, has had a fine start to his third big-league season. He has also been a Cardinal killer in his young career, posting a 1-0 mark with a 1.82 ERA over four starts. What would help is if the Dodgers keep hitting the ball the way they’ve been of late, especially Rafael Furcal. Raf is hitting .429 with five RBIs and five runs over the past five games, and he’ll need t o be seeing the ball well if he wants to get good swing against Wainwright.

With both these guys throwing the ball so well, the under (6 ½) is a safe bet tonight in Game 2 of our MLB Parlay.
