MLB Odds – Toronto Needs Luck Against the Tampa Bay Rays
April 24, 2010
The Toronto Blue Jays are going to need a bit of luck in order to beat the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night. Tampa’s been brilliant lately and are a huge baseball bet in the sportsbook to rout the Blue Jays on Friday night.
The Rays send pitcher Matt Garza to the mound. How good haas Garza been in 2010? He’s 3 and 0 for a .75 ERA and a .88 WHIP. He’s also gotten the run support that he needs in order to win games as the Rays have put up 4, 5 and 7 runs in Garza’s last 3 starts.
The Blue Jays counter the awesome Garza with pitcher Brett Cecil. Cecil makes his first start of the season on Friday night. As a rookie, Cecil is 7 and 5 with a 5.38 ERA. He faces a formidable Tampa Bay Rays’ starting line-up in his first game of 2010.
Because of that, the Blue Jays are underdogs in this game.
Toronto Blue Jays
Brett Cecil – L +1 ½ -105 +200 O 8 ½ -115
Tampa Bay Rays
Matt Garza – R -1 ½ -115 -240 U 8 ½ -115
The trends give the Blue Jays an outside shot to win this game.
- The Toronto Blue Jays are 7 and 0 in their last 7 games versus a team with a winning record.
- The Toronto Blue Jays are 5 and 0 in their last 5 games an underdog on the road.
- The Tampa Bay Rays are 7 and 1 in their last 8 games follow a win.
- The Tampa Bay Rays are 17 and 4 in their last 21 games as a home favorite of -201 or greater.
Even though the trends say that the Blue Jays have a shot to win this game, I don’t believe that they do.
The Blue Jays have gone 1 and 7 in the last 8 games between these two teams. That’s not a good trend and even though there are a few trends that point to the Blue Jays being competitive in this one, the Rays are just on fire right now.
Tampa Bay has won 9 out of their last 10 games. They send their ace to the mound on Friday night against a Blue Jays’ pitcher that will be making his first start of the year. I just don’t see how a team that has outscored their opponents 22 to 2 in their last 2 games including beating up on Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox two games ago on the road, is going to have a tough time against Brett Cecil.
The Rays should win this game easily. The real question is what wager to make. Since Tampa Bay is such a big favorite on the money line, it makes more sense to take a shot and try to secure more profits by giving up the 1 ½ runs on Matt Garza.
His WHIP and ERA are phenomenal. So, I firmly believe that the Rays will win this game by at least 2 runs.
My baseball bet will be on Matt Garza and the Rays at -1 ½ runs.
