MLB Odds – John Lacky and Boston Are Betting Favorites Over Toronto Tonight

May 10, 2010

The last time the Toronto Blue Jays faced the Boston Red Sox, the Blue Jays were outscored 17 to 13 in 3 games and ended up being swept by the BoSox.  The Blue Jays will look for a measure of revenge when they send Brandon Morrow to the mound on Monday night.

After giving up 5 runs and 7 runs in the first two games that he pitched this season, Brandon Morrow settled down some allowing only 3 hits in his next two games before giving up 7 hits and then 6 hits in his last two games.  Morrow’s ERA now stands at 5.40.  His WHIP is 1.53.

The Boston Red Sox send pitcher John Lackey to the mound to face-off against Brandon Morrow.  Lackey has had much more success than Morrow so far in 2010.  He’s gone 3 and 1 with a 3.89 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP so far this season.  Lackey and the BoSox are the baseball bet favorites to win this game tonight.

Toronto Blue Jays
Brandon Morrow – R                       +1 ½ -135        +160    O  9 ½ -110

Boston Red Sox
John Lackey – R                               -1 ½ +115        -190     U 9 ½ -110

The trends point to the Blue Jays doing very well ATS in this game although one trend does favor the Red Sox.

  • The Toronto Blue Jays are 7 and 1 overall in their last 8 games.
  • The Toronto Blue Jays are 9 and 2 ATS in their last 11 games on the road versus a right-handed starter.
  • The Boston Red Sox are 5 and 0 in t heir last 5 games as the favorite.
  • The Boston Red Sox are 3 and 15 in their last 18 games versus a team with a winning record.

Boston just hasn’t been doing very well in 2010.  Yes, they swept the Blue Jays the last time the two teams met and they did sweep the Angels two series ago, but they played terribly against the New York Yankees losing 2 out of 3.  Overall the Red Sox are 16 and 16 as opposed to the Blue Jays who are 19 and 14
The Blue Jays average 5.16 runs per game and even though they do face a tough pitcher in John Lackey, there’s a good chance that they could get to Lackey for at least a couple of runs tonight.

If Morrow can hold the Red Sox to 3 runs or less and the Blue Jays middle-relief can keep the Red Sox under control, then making a baseball bet on the Blue Jays and the run line might be the way to go.  Toronto was swept by the Red Sox the last time the two teams met but they lost only 1 of those games by 2 runs.

They lost by only 1 run in the other 2 games.  The Toronto Blue Jays should be very tough tonight and for the entire series.

I believe they are an excellent baseball wager at +1 ½ in the sportsbook.

Pick:  Toronto Blue Jays +1 ½ -135
