MLB Odds – Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers

April 13, 2011

The Texas Rangers were handed their second loss of the season last night off the bat of Miguel Cabrera, as the Tigers first-baseman singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to get the 5-4 win.

This afternoon, Detroit wraps up a three-game homestand against Texas in the Wednesday night MLB odds.

Texas Rangers (9-2) at Detroit Tigers (4-7)

Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan

Wednesday, April 13 at 1:05 PM ET

TV: FSH, FSD

MLB Odds:

Texas               +1.5     -165

Detroit -1.5      +145

Game Total:      9 runs

Yesterday was a bad day for Texas.  Not only did the team lose their second game of the season, but the team also lost their star batter and team leader.  John Hamilton left the game with a fractured arm and is expected to miss six to eight weeks of play.  Hamilton was batting at .333 with seven RBIs so far on the season.

 MLB Pitching Matchup:

TEX D. Bush (n/a) vs. DET M. Scherzer (2-0, 5.73)

Today’s starting pitcher for the Rangers will be Dave Bush, who has yet to start this season.  Bush take the mound today looking to build on his 5.14 ERA of spring training.  In the 2010 season, Bush went 8-13 on a 4.54 ERA.

However, Bush has never had much success against Cabrera, as Cabrera has hit two home-runs and one double against Bush, going three for eight.  Not to mention that Cabrera is having a great season, batting .385 so far with 10 RBIs.  All his preseason woes seem to be forgotten as Cabrera leads the Tigers offense.

On the mound for Detroit this afternoon will be Max Scherzer.  At home in Comerica Park, Scherzer is 9-4 with an ERA of only 2.90 and has had even greater numbers against Texas, averaging a 2.25 ERA with a record of 2-0 in three career starts.

The Tigers are listed as the favorite in the MLB Sportsbook, with the game total set at nine runs.

If Texas is going to have a down game, today will likely be it.  After the loss of their team leader and a loss on the scoreboard, the team may come out flat this afternoon.  The best MLB bet is on the Tigers -1.5!
