MLB Odds – ‘Under’ Teams
May 6, 2010
The MLB odds are stacked against a lot of pitching staffs and lineups right now, and BetOnline Sportsbook not only takes a look at the hottest ‘under’ teams so far in the month of May, but the best ones for the entire season as well.
Season Standings
1: St. Louis Cardinals (19-8) - The Cardinals are already starting to make a mockery out of the NL Central Division, and they’re doing so thanks to a pitching staff that ranks #1 in the league with a 2.62 ERA. Manager Tony LaRussa has gotten 25 quality starts out of 28 games this year, easily the best in the bigs. Parlay that with a lineup that is rather weak outside of 1B Albert Pujols and OF Matt Holliday, and the makings are right for the MLB odds to keep churning out ‘unders’ in the Gateway to the West.
2: Houston Astros (17-8) – On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Astros just can’t score runs to save their lives. Generating 2.85 runs per game isn’t going to cut it by any stretch of the imagination in the majors, and it just doesn’t seem like things are going to get any better any time soon. Houston, we have another problem!
3: Cleveland Indians (16-9) – We knew that the Tribe were going to struggle scoring runs this year, but just six games of at more than five runs on the entire season so far? Heck, there are a number of teams in baseball that are averaging over five runs per game night in and night out. Cleveland’s offensive woes have led to a ton of ‘unders’, and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue.
Who’s Hot?
1: St. Louis Cardinals (0-4-1) - You have to go back to April 29th to find the last time that St. Louis posted an ‘over’ contest. The Redbirds only have one run in their L/2 games against the Phillies, and now they have to take on RHP Roy Halladay today in the series finale. Yikes.
2: Detroit Tigers (1-4) – The Tigers haven’t been keeping games ‘under’ the number by much, but they’ve gotten the job done thanks to a bullpen that has only allowed one run in the five games they’ve played in May. Pitching like that is going to keep Detroit in contention all year, so its MLB betting fans shouldn’t be afraid of the fact that the team was just swept at Target Field.
3: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (1-4) – What’s scarier for Manager Mike Scioscia right now: The fact that his team is scoring less than four runs per game, or that his pitching staff has an ERA of over 5.00 for the year? The Halos have been held to either one or two runs in four of the L/5 days, and the one game that they did crack the two-run barrier, they allowed 18 to the Red Sox. Times are clearly changing in Anaheim, as the Halos have dropped six straight games and are in danger of falling quite a ways out of the AL West chase.
