MLB Futures – Who Are The Favorites To Take Home The 2011 Title?

March 2, 2011

With all of your favorite baseball teams having already reported to Spring Training, who’s ready to place a few MLB Futures bets?

The time is now, and these are the favorites to take home the World Series title!

Philadelphia Phillies (+300): By now you know the names: Roy Halladay. Cliff Lee. Roy Oswalt. Cole Hamels. When it comes to the MLB Futures wagers, who in baseball will beat the Phillies this fall?

We’re not sure, as Philadelphia will trot out the premiere pitching rotation in all of baseball, featuring last year’s NL Cy Young Award winner (Halladay) not to mention an American League postseason hero in Lee, with Oswalt and Hamels as their No. 3 and 4 starters. Wow! And on offense, Philadelphia shouldn’t miss a beat either with Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins anchoring the order.

There’s no shame in betting on the favorite in the MLB Futures. Don’t be a fool. Wager on Philadelphia today!

Boston Red Sox (+400): If you’re looking for a little American League flavor to your MLB Futures, how about the Boston Red Sox? They may have the best balance of offense and pitching in the league.

On the mound, we all know about Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz and John Lackey, a trio of pitchers which won a combined 40 games last year. Still, don’t sleep on this offense though, which returns All-Star Kevin Youkilis, former MVP Dustin Pedroia and new comers Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez, who each batted at least .298 last year and combined for 50 home runs last season.

At 4-1, the Red Sox seem like a steal in the MLB Futures!

New York Yankees (+650): If we’ve learned anything over the years it’s that the dumbest thing to do in sports, is wager against the New York Yankees. Although their odds are long to open the spring, the Bronx Bombers are most certainly a smart MLB Futures bet.

New York returns one of the most feared lineups in baseball, with Robinson Cano (.319, 29 home runs) turning into a bona-fide star, along with established veterans Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez, who combined for 63 home runs last year. And while the pitching staff is limited behind C.C. Sabathia and Phil Hughes, you know the Yankees will make a move before the trade deadline. Even if they don’t, that’s a pretty lethal one-two punch.

Don’t be fooled. This team will be a factor come October.

San Francisco Giants (+1400): After the Yankees, there’s a big dip in the MLB Futures, with the San Francisco Giants next in line. Although, why wouldn’t you bet on the defending World Series champions to repeat?

We can’t think of one good reason, as this club returns plenty of talent to their title defense, including starting pitcher Tim Lincecum. The two-time Cy Young Award winner found his groove late last season, leading the National League in strikeouts (231) while winning 16 games. And to his credit, Lincecum was even better in the postseason, where he went 4-1 with a 2.93 ERA in leading the Giants to their first title since coming to the Bay Area over 50 years ago.

At the price you’re getting them at, there simply isn’t a better MLB Futures bet than the Giants!
