MLB Free Picks – Detroit Looks To Even Series With Minnesota
May 4, 2010
After getting greeted to Target Field with a 10-4 blasting, the Detroit Tigers will send Dontrelle Willis to the mound in an effort to level the series, while keeping their fingers crossed that he can do what he did last time.
The home sturdy Twins are 17-5 SU in their own building, but Detroit is not to be taken lightly despite their namesake. The loss last night was their first in five games.
In his last outing against the Twins, Willis threw 6.0 innings and allowed just four hits and zero runs, earning the win in the process. Now 1-1 SU in five starts, Willis is showing the type of consistency that the Tigers have been expecting out of him ever since bringing him in. The lefty now has a 3.75 ERA, allowing 25 hits in 24.0 innings and 10 earned runs against.
There’s no doubt that Willis will have his best tested against the Twins, who boast the second boast home offense in the American League. Averaging 5.9 runs per game ranks them second right behind Tampa Bay, and any team hovering around that 6-run mark is worth a look in MLB betting.
Detroit Tigers (16-11) vs. Minnesota Twins (17-9)
Tuesday, May 4th — Target Field — 8:10pm EST
MLB Betting Lines:
Dontrelle Willis – L +1.5 -165 +120 O 10 EV
Nick Blackburn – R -1.5 +145 -140 O 10 -120
That being said, Nick Blackburn hasn’t exactly earned the faith of the Tigers or their betting faithful. Having failed to reach the fifth inning in each of his last two starts, Nick Blackburn has ballooned up to a 6.85 ERA, which is a direct result of him allowing 17 hits and 10 run in the 9.1 innings he survived over his past two starts.
I believe in the Twins. I don’t believe in Blackburn.
Where To Watch: FSD, FSNO
The Tigers are a dangerous offense if they’re able to get rolling early and the top of the order, in my opinion, is one of the best outside of the Yankees and Rays. The Twins certainly have the muscle to keep pace, but I think Willis brings a sense of reality back to this series from the mound. That’s why I’m betting Tigers tonight.
