Red-Hot Hurlers

Philadelphia Phillies’ left-hander Cole Hamels (9-10, 3.18 ERA) has been mostly lights out over his last 11 starts despite getting just three wins during the span.

Hamels has not allowed a single earned run in two straight starts spanning 15 combined innings, allowing just seven total hits while striking out 13 and walking just three batters heading into tonight’s home start against Florida.

Houston Astros veteran right-hander Brett Myers (10-7, 3.02 ERA), is looking a lot like the pitcher the Philadelphia Phillies thought they were getting when they drafted Myers over a decade ago.

The hard-throwing right-hander has allowed two earned runs or less in five of his last six starts and has held opponents to a meager .249 batting average this season.

Myers ranks sixth in the National League in innings pitched (191.0) heading into tonight’s 8:05 road start against the Chicago Cubs. Myers has gone 2-0 over his last three starts with a fantastic 2.25 ERA.

Not so Hot

Texas Rangers’ left-hander Derek Holland (2-3, 4.93 ERA) is struggling mightily right now, having allowed at least four earned runs in two of his last three starts while not making it out of the fourth inning in two of those starts.

In just 34.2 innings this season, Holland has allowed a whopping 19 earned runs on 34 hits, including six home runs while going 0-3 with a 9.24 ERA on the road heading into tonight’s road date at Toronto.

Atlanta Braves right-hander Derek Lowe (11-12, 4.53 ERA has allowed 12 earned runs and 19 total hits – including four home runs – over his last three starts spanning just 16 total innings.
