MLB Betting – Playoff Race Tightening Up as the Hunt for October Is On

September 15, 2010

Are you ready for MLB betting action? Eleven teams are still basically fighting for just eight spots in the baseball postseason and, here at BetOnline Sportsbook, we’ve got the lowdown on how each of the divisional races are going to pan out.

In the American League, barring a huge run by the Chicago White Sox or Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers are going to be in the playoffs.

In the American East, he Yankees and Rays are about to begin playing each other seven times over the course of the next 11 days. Tampa Bay is just a half game ahead of the Bronx Bombers after MLB betting action on Monday night. The winner of this division will likely be taking on the Rangers, while the loser will more than likely oppose Minnesota.

National League baseball futures betting is significantly more interesting.

In the NL East, the Philadelphia Phillies have just recently overtaken the Atlanta Braves for the top spot in the division. The two-time defending NL champs are getting healthy and using their tremendous pitching staff anchored by Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, and Cole Hamels to try to get back to the playoffs.

Atlanta has the best home record in baseball at 51-21 and is just one game back, but currently holds the NL Wild Card.

The Cincinnati Reds are probably safe right now, but they have lost six of their L/10 games and are six up in the loss column against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards are also six down in the loss column behind the Braves for the NL Wild Card.

The NL West is the most intriguing race right now, and it is anyone’s guess who is ultimately going to come out on top.

Just a few weeks ago, it appeared as though the San Diego Padres were going to run away and hide from everyone else in this division. However, a recent run of bad luck that included a massive 11-game losing streak brought the Padres back to the pack.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants drew even with San Diego and sit just percentage points in the rearview mirror. The G-Men are also just 1.5 games behind Atlanta for the Wild Card.

The intriguing team coming out of the parking lot for the second straight season? The Colorado Rockies, who did it last year, coming from the gutter in the NL West to win the Wild Card.
Could this be déjà vu? Those of us who bet on baseball know it could be!

Before Monday’s loss, the Rockies had rolled to ten straight victories. They are still 2.5-games in back of both the Pads and Giants in the NL West and are 3.5-games behind in the NL Wild Card chase, but they are playing the best baseball of the bunch and should be considered a very dangerous team.

The only other squad with a fighting chance right now is the Florida Marlins. The Fish are barely hanging on, nine games behind the Braves in the NL Wild Card race.
