MLB Betting Picks – Red Sox Look For Second Win Against Rangers
April 22, 2010
The Texas Rangers went in to Fenway Park and stole nine bases yesterday, but the Boston Red Sox are the ones that stole the victory. After falling behind, the Red Sox posted a huge rally thanks to some great hitting and an even better bullpen. Now they’ll unleash Josh Beckett in hopes of putting Texas on the ropes in the series.
The Rangers began the day exactly how they wanted it, going up 5-3 heading in to the final two innings. Then the heavy hands came to play for Boston, and they ravaged the closing efforts of Texas to score three runs in the final two at-bats and take the win at home in front of a thrilled crowd.
Texas wasn’t without success in the game. They scored 6 runs on 8 hits and their penchant for stealing bases exposed Boston’s rough, patch defense. It was an odd sight, especially since the only players to hit the injury list were Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron.
Texas Rangers (5-8) vs. Boston Red Sox (5-9)
Wednesday, April 21st — Fenway Park — 7:10pm EST
MLB Betting Lines:
Matt Harrison – L +1.5 (-125) +170 O 8.5 -115
Josh Beckett – R -1.5 (+105) -200 U 8.5 -105
The Red Sox will hope that Josh Beckett, who is 1-0 SU with a 3.86 ERA, can continue to be a workhorse. He has pitched through seven innings in his past two starts, allowing a total of 13 hits and 4 runs in a win and a loss. Beckett has been up and down against the surly batting of the Rangers, going 2-2 SU with a no-decision as well over his past five starts against them.
Texas will counter with their ace Matt Harrison, a left-handed hurler who has pitched in 13 innings over two losses. Neither of those can be attributed to the efforts of Harrison, who allowed just 11 hits and 4 runs in his two starts against Seattle and Cleveland. Both were one-run losses.
Where to Watch: FSH, NSN+
Despite the superb base running of Texas, Josh Hamilton continued to slump at the plate, earning zero hits in three appearances at home plate. Until Hamilton gets rolling, this offense is going to fall flat. I don’t think Texas has done enough losing to wipe them off the playoff consideration plate yet, but whenever Josh Beckett is on the mound, there’s no way I’m betting against him.
Take Boston whenever they have momentum and are playing at home. It’s why the money line is so steep, and why you should still take it regardless of how well you think Harrison can pitch in this game. It’s the safe bet.
