MLB Betting Picks – New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels

April 23, 2010

After splitting a series with the Detroit Lions, the Angels continue a lengthy home stand by hosting the best team in the major leagues.

The New York Yankees are coming off huge series wins over Oakland and Texas, and are doing something early in the MLB betting season that we’re not accustomed to – they’re winning in April. As far as MLB betting picks go, the Yankees have become a team you simply can’t bet against.

The Angels, however, will do their best to deploy an array of usually reliable bats to derail the Yankees in the first game of what will be a great series.

Like him or hate him (I’ll take the latter), A.J. Burnett is off to a tremendous start this year. Already 2-0 SU with a 2.37 ERA, Burnett is coming off a hot-handed effort against the Rangers where he pitched seven scoreless innings and only gave up six hits.

This may be sweet redemption for the momentum building Burnett, who was burnt by the Angels last year in the playoffs for a 5.84 ERA and gave up a loss and a win though neither decision counted on Burnett’s player card.

The Angels have some very strong hitting abilities, but Burnett and the Yankees bullpen has been able to stifle this team.

New York Yankees (11-4) vs. Los Angeles Angels (8-9)

Friday, April 23rd — Grass of Angel Stadium — 10:05pm EST

MLB Betting Lines:

A.J. Burnett – R -1.5+120-135O 9.5+105

Ervin Santana – R +1.5-140 +115 U 9.5-125

So the Angles will have to do what the rest of the league has failed to do. Slowing down a star studded, and lethally deep, batting order for the Yankees will be priority one. That won’t be easy considering that the Yankees post 5.4 runs per game, ranking second in the AL.

Ervin Santana was able to dismantle the Toronto Blue Jays the last time he stood at the stripe, but dealing with New York’s heavy hitters hasn’t been a task he’s been able to handle this year.

In his only start against the Yanks this season, Santana was blown up for five runs, and two homers, in 5 2/3 innings.

Where To Watch: YES, FSW

Playing at home hasn’t boosted the Angels recently, and coming off two straight losses to Detroit isn’t going to help morale as the Yankees pay them a visit. I know that the road team here is in the midst of a harsh west coast trip right now, but Burnett is becoming much more consistent.

As long as he keeps his temper in check, the Yankees will take this one and reward those who choose them as an MLB betting pick tonight.

Furious MLB Free Pick: NYY RL and ML (OVER)
