MLB Betting Picks – Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals

April 20, 2010

It’s no secret that the Colorado Rockies are desperately missing Huston Street, their star closer. Entering a four-game series against he lowly Washington Nationals, the moneyline betting public will be pleased to know that Colorado has a comfortable 5-0 SU streak against Washington in their back pocket heading in tot his series. What they don’t have is a guy who can close out games for them properly.

Not much has changed for either team since they met last August, a three-game series swept by the visiting Rockies. What is a cause for alarm is the fact that two of those games were decided by just one-run. Usually the reliable bats of Colorado would be enough to warrant some confidence, but Franklin Morales has been blasted in his last two of his last four save attempts.

Certainly not bolstering the MLB betting faith for the Rockies will be Aaron Cook, who hasn’t exactly amazed anyone this season. With a 5.56 ERA and an 0-1 SU record, the only reason that Cook might get votes in the sportsbook is because he’s playing with the Rockies behind him.

Colorado Rockies (6-6) vs. Washington Nationals (6-6)
Monday, April 19th — Nationals Park — 7:05pm EST
MLB Betting Lines:
Aaron Cook – R -1.5 +105 -155 O 9.5 EV
Craig Stammen – R +1.5 -125 +135 U 9.5 -120

Craig Stammen of the Nationals will take to the mound, and it’s uncertain whether or not his club has confidence in him…or just hates him. Stammen has had to appear in two games against he Phillies this season, and has been torn to bits for a 15.56 ERA after giving up 11 runs in 6 1/3 innings, spread over two games.

Sure, there’s a drop off from Philadelphia to Colorado’s bats, but it’s not that much. Besides, I’d rather place an MLB bet on a guy who has mechanical issues, rather than a guy like Stammen who has serious confidence problems. Didn’t Washington get the memo that nobody cares about them until they bring up Strasburg?

Where To Watch: FSRM, MASN

The Nationals aren’t as bad as everyone thinks they are, they’re just uninspiring. They have major holes on defense, especially on the left side of the pitch, and their starting rotation is laughable. Baseball betting is all about the starting pitcher, in my opinion, so I’ll take Cook on the money. I’ll also count on Stammen to get blasted in the first three innings as Colorado rattles his bell.
