MLB Betting Odds -Silva and Cubs Big Baseball Bet Faves Versus St. Louis

May 29, 2010

Carlos Silva and the Chicago Cubs figure to be the baseball betting favorites when one of the best rivalries in baseball history resumes on Saturday afternoon. Silva has been exceptional with the Cubs so far this season. Even though his ERA of 3.52 isn’t all that special, he’s 6 and 0 with a 1.21 WHIP.

The Cubbies bats always respond when Silva is on the mound hurling for them. He’s received 4 runs or more in each of his 6 victories. Will Silva and the Cubs come up big again on Saturday?

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs

Where: Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL

When: May 29th, 2010 at 4:10 pm EST

TV: TBD

Radio: St. Louis – KTRS 550
Chicago Cubs – WGN 720

The MLB betting trends for this game favor the Cubs.

  • The Chicago Cubs are 8 and 0 in Carlos Silva’s last 8 starts.
  • The Chicago Cubs are 5 and 0 in Carlos Silva’s last 5 starts at home.
  • The Chicago Cubs are 5 and 1 in their last 6 games at home.
  • The St. Louis Cardinals are 1 and 4 in their last 5 games on the road.

The St. Louis Cardinals would usually start pitcher Kyle Lohse in this spot, but Lohse is on the 15-day disabled list. Manager Tony LaRussa has said that the Cards will call-up pitcher Adam Ottavino and give him the start opposite Carlos Silva.

Obviously there isn’t a lot known about Ottavino. He’s 6’5”, weighs 230lbs, is a righty, and is only 24 years old. He was also the Cardinals’ #1 draft pick in 2006. How will Ottavino do against the Cubs?

Does it matter? With Silva on the mound, the Cubs would score runs against Roy Halladay or Tim Lincecum. The fact that poor Ottavino has to make his MLB start against Silva and the Cubs should only help sports gamblers decide on how to bet this game.

Here’s a list of what the score was in each of Carlos Silva’s six victories: Cubs 7-Astros 2, Cubs 9-Mets 3, Cubs 14-Reds 7, Cubs 4-Marlins 3, Cubs 6-Rockies 2, Cubs 5-Rangers 4.

So, in 4 out of Silva’s 6 victories the Cubs outscored their opponents by at least 2 runs. Another way to say it is that the Cubbies are 4 and 6 on the run line when Carlos Silva takes the mound.

That’s the baseball bet to make, of course, the Chicago Cubs on the run line. I’m willing to give up the 1 ½ runs in this game since Silva is on the mound for Chicago and the Cardinals have to start Ottavino.

I doubt I’m going to get above even money baseball odds, but I’m okay with that. The bet in this game is on Carlos Silva and the Chicago Cubs on the run line.
