Toronto Blue Jays (27-21 SU, 25-21-2 O/U, 31-17 RL)
Los Angeles Angels (22-26 SU, 23-23-2 O/U, 24-24 RL)
Here is a look at tonight’s key head-to-head trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and expert MLB Picks.
Under is 20-7-2 in the last 29 meetings in Los Angeles.
Under is 44-18-6 in the last 68 meetings.
The Angels cruised to an 8-3 win over Toronto on Tuesday night as veteran starter Ervin Santana tossed a complete game to get the win and Bobby Abreu and Erick Aybar both went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in for the Angels.
Los Angeles covered the MLB betting line as -110 home favorites while the 11 total runs played Over the 8-run O/U total.
Toronto 411
Blue Jays are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. American League West.
Blue Jays are 9-4 in their last 13 vs. a team with a losing record.
Over is 4-1 in Morrows last 5 road starts.
Aaron Hill, Jose Bautista, and Jeremy Reed all hit solo homers for the Jays in the loss while Ricky Romero was smacked around for seven runs in 5.1 innings for the Blue Jays.
Los Angeles 411
Angels are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
Angels are 4-1 in their last 5 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
Over is 4-1 in Angels last 5 overall.
Mike Napoli went 2-for-3 with a home run for the Angels who improved to 5-5 over their last 10 games with the win.
The Starters: Tonight, the Blue Jays will hand the ball to right-hander Brandon Morrow (3-4, 6.80 ERA) while the Angels counter with right-hander Joel Pineiro (3-5, 5.00 ERA).
Morrow will try to bounce back after getting lit up in his last outing. The young hurler allowed six runs on eight hits in four innings of an 8-6 loss to the D-backs in Phoenix this past Friday.
Veteran right-hander Joel Pineiro was hit hard in St. Louis in his last outing, giving up nine earned runs on nine hits and three walks in three innings, including a grand slam by opposing pitcher Brad Penny.
Analysis: I’ll keep this pick short and sweet by simply saying that I like the Los Angeles Angels to win this contest despite the fact that they are clearly not the same team they’ve been for the better part of the last half-decade or so.
The Angels have gone 4-1 in their last five games as a home favorite and an identical 4-1 in their last five home games against a right-handed starter.
Sure, the Blue Jays have gone an encouraging 6-1 in their last seven games against AL West ballclubs, but tonight’s starter Brandon Morrow has been mediocre at best this season and the Angels are playing at home, which I believe will be enough for them to record the SU win and money line cover at the very least.
In addition to playing the Angels to win this contest straight up, I also like the Over in a big way as it has gone 4-1 in Brandon Morrow’s last five road starts and an identical 4-1 in the Angels’ last five games overall.
MLB Expert Picks: Angels SU Win/Over 9½ Total Runs
