MLB Betting Matchups – Angels vs Tigers

May 1, 2010

End your month of April with a full slate of MLB betting action on Friday night at BetOnline Sportsbook! As a part of the festivities, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Detroit Tigers will crack skulls at Comerica Park for the first game of a three game weekend series.

These two squads have already met once this season, as they each took two games in a four game set in Anaheim.

The Halos are hitting the road after playing ten straight at home. They wrapped up that home stand just 6-4, a record that Manager Mike Scioscia would’ve hoped to do better than. His club did win three of its L/4 in the set, but the overall record wasn’t good enough by his standards.

Detroit has also won three out of four after making a bit of a statement by winning a series against the Twins at home during the week. During the three game set, the Tigers only allowed eight runs, six of which were scored during an 11-6 romp of a victory in Game 2.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (12-11, -$56) vs. Detroit Tigers (13-10, +$281)

  • Game Date/Time: Friday, April 30th, 7:05 ET
  • Game Location: Comerica Park, Detroit, MI
  • TV/Radio Broadcast: Fox Sports West, Fox Sports Detroit, XM

MLB Odds

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim -1.5 +130 -120 (Joel Pineiro – R)

Detroit Tigers +1.5 -150 EVEN (Rick Porcello – R)

Total 9.5 o EVEN 9.5 u-120

Had you told Angels fans that they were going to get a 3.42 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP out of their newly acquired right-hander over the first month of the season, they’d probably be ecstatic. However, if you told those same fans that RHP Joel Pineiro, a year after going 15-12, would be just 2-2 in his first four starts, they wouldn’t be as thrilled.

The former St. Louis Cardinal allowed six runs and 11 hits in a loss to the Yankees earlier this week in what was clearly the worst start of his season.

Pineiro silenced the Detroit bats in his first look at the Tigers this year, pitching 7.1 spotless frames in a 2-0 Anaheim victory. He is now 7-2 with a 2.40 ERA in 12 career outings against tonight’s opponent.

Meanwhile, RHP Rick Porcello was already lit up like a Christmas tree by the Angels. Back on April 20th, the second year man gave up six earned runs in just 4.1 innings for the first loss of his 2010 MLB betting campaign.

The right-hander is now 1-2 with a lofty 7.91 ERA. Porcello has allowed six earned runs in his L/2 starts.

Detroit has lost three straight games in which its former first round draft pick took the hill.

MLB Insider Tip: The Halos are a rock solid 49-23 in their L/72 meetings with Detroit.

That’s an insanely difficult stat to ignore. Factor in the reality that Porcello just hasn’t been that great this season, and the makings are right for the Angels to start off this road trip in style.

Fly with the Halos in Friday night’s MLB betting battle.
