MLB Betting Insider – Givin’ Some Love to Six ‘Under the Radar’ Money Starters
June 22, 2010
While most MLB gamblers know all about ‘big-name’ pitchers like Ubaldo Jimenez, Clay Buchholz, Phil Hughes, David Price and Adam Wainwright, all won double digit games for their respective ballclubs, I am here to tell avid MLB gamblers everywhere that it is time to give some love to baseball’s best ‘Under the Radar’ starters.
That’s right pro baseball bettors, when it comes to leading their teams to victory during the first half of the 2010 MLB regular season, it’s not only the well-known pitchers that are consistently cashing in for baseball bettors.
In this MLB Betting Insider article, I will quickly point out a six-pack of ‘Under the Radar’ starting pitchers that have also put big bucks in the MLB betting coffer this season, but don’t get nearly the notoriety of some of their more publicized brethren.
With a full slate of MLB action taking place in the MLB Sportsbook tonight, let me get started.
Kris Medlen Atlanta 7-1 (+$664)
Don’t know who Kris Medlen is? Well, you had better get acquainted quickly MLB gamblers, because Atlanta’s second-year right-handed reliever-turned-starter, is ranked eighth in all of baseball in money starters and has helped the Braves go an impressive 7-1 in his eight starts this season by posting a surprising 4-1 record with a respectable 3.33 ERA.
10. Tommy Hanson Atlanta 11-3 (+$631)
Okay, I’ll admit that Hanson is a bit more well-know than his aforementioned teammate after going an impressive 11-4 for the Braves in his rookie campaign last season, but the fact of the matter is that the right-handed Hanson is also a second-year player that may not be on a lot of bettors’ radar screens as a consistent winner. Well, Hanson has gone 7-3 in 14 starts this season while compiling a solid 3.38 ERA.
11. Mitch Talbot Cleveland 8-5 (+$601)
Don’t ask me how right-hander Mitch Talbot (7-5, 4.21 ERA) has ended up as one of baseball’s best money starters despite playing for the pitiful Indians (26-42) but here he is, ranked 11th in all of baseball when it comes to bringing home the bacon.
13. C.J. Wilson Texas 10-4 (+$553)
Ranked 13th on the money starter list heading into Tuesday night, Wilson isn’t going nuts for the improved Texas Rangers as he is just 5-3 with a respectable 3.41 ERA in 14 starts this season, but the Rangers apparently like it when he takes the mound and have found a way to win five games in which Wilson didn’t get a decision, including four of those by one run.
19. R.A. Dickey Mets 5-1 (+$458)
Dickey is another pitcher that MLB gamblers almost assuredly don’t know very well, despite the fact that he’s pitched in the majors for eight seasons. In six starts for the Mets this season, Dickey has gone 5-0 with a stellar 2.82 ERA to put over $400 bucks in Mets’ bettors pockets.
40. Mike Leake Cincinnati 9-5 (+$322)
Cincinnati’s rookie right-hander is leading the race for NL Rookie of the Year so far this season after going 5-1 with a fantastic 2.92 ERA in 14 starts spanning 89.1 innings. Leake allowed just one earned run on Monday to lead the Reds to victory just as I predicted in the MLB Locker Room despite getting saddled with a no-decision. Keep an eye on this young hurler whenever he takes the mound for the improved Reds.
