MLB Betting Insider – Betting Small – Small Market Teams Tearing Up Money Rankings
May 4, 2010
When it comes to inning big by betting on Major League Baseball, apparently, betting ‘small’ is the way to go, at least in the early going of the 2010 MLB regular season.
This look at baseball’s best money producing ballclubs, which just s happens to be dominated by all small market teams, will give MLB betting buffs everywhere another excellent way to making winning MLB wagers over the course of the next week or thereabouts.
With a full slate of MLB action taking place tonight, let me get started.
1. Washington (13-12) +792
The Washington Nationals, that’s right … the Nationals, lead all of baseball in bringing home the bacon after just over two dozen games. The team’s 13-12 SU mark has put a whopping +792in bettors pockets. If you think the Nats are getting it done with smoke and mirrors, think again. Washington has compiled a winning record both at home (7-6) and on the road (6-6).
2. San Diego (16-10) +750
The Padres have recorded a fine 10-4 mark at home and respectable 6-6 mark on the road to put +750 in the betting bankroll. Don’t go thinking this is a typo o that you’ve got dyslexia, but San Diego’s obviously improved pitching staff had tossed 40 scoreless innings over their last 43 frames heading into Monday night.
3. Tampa Bay (18-7) +732
The Rays have the best record in baseball and have put a whopping +732 in the MLB betting coffer so far. The best part for MLB bettors that like to wager on the Rays is the fact that they look like the real deal no matter where they play, having gone 9-6 at home and a nearly perfect 9-1 on the road.
4. St. Louis (18-8) +721
Hey, hey, hey … it’s ‘Fat Albert’ and the St. Louis Cardinals who have gotten off to a fine start and look like they are going to be a legitimate challenge for the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL this season. Albert Pujols is the best hitter on the planet and the Cards have at least two legitimate Cy Young award contenders. St. Louis has gone 10-3 at home and 8-5 on the road.
5. Minnesota (17-9) +656
The fifth-best money-producer so far is the Minnesota Twins, my favorite small market team in the game and perennially one of the best-coached and hardest playing teams in either league. The Twins and reigning AL MVP Joe Mauer have gotten off to a fine start that has seen them succeed both at home (7-3) and on the road (10-6).
Two more small market teams that have put money in baseball bettors’ pockets despite mediocre starts to the regular season are, the Cincinnati Reds (13-13, +153) and Pittsburgh Pirates (10-15, +105).
