MLB Betting – Can Yankees Take Out Diamondbacks on the Road?

June 21, 2010

While the New York Yankees are still reeling from the drunken Lady Gaga clubhouse saga (okay, so they’ve faced far worse distractions than that), the Arizona Diamondbacks are focused more on avoiding the cellar in the NL West. But with four teams ahead of them, a last-place finish is a grim reality and MLB betting and sports betting fans know it.

Meanwhile, on the baseball side of things for New York, the Yankees have finally overtaken Tampa Bay for first place, which makes many MLB futures betting fans and sports betting fans in general happy while also enraging the numerous Yankee haters out there as well.

Tonight, the Yanks face a tough road trip out west on a Monday against the D’backs.

New York Yankees (AJ Burnett, R) at Arizona Diamondbacks (Rodrigo Lopez, R)

10:10 pm ET, Bank One Ballpark

MLB betting line: Yankees favored at -1 ½

The Yankees have been dominating again as of late in large part to their pitching. Phil Hughes has surprised many by jumping out to a 9-1 start for one of the best records in the Major Leagues.

Now, the Yankees will send Burnett to the hill and while he hasn’t been as good as Hughes, he is capable of being the more dominant pitcher. The D’backs have struggled with power pitchers like most NL teams giving the Yankees a distinct advantage going into this one.

The Diamondbacks have Rodrgio Lopez on the hill, a pitcher who the Yankees saw a lot in Baltimore, but this isn’t the same Lopez who was one of the better pitchers in the AL East for the Orioles back in his heyday.
Lopez comes in with a 2-6 record for the D’backs and the Yankees have the better lineup, more to play for, and a big pitching edge in this matchup making New York the smart MLB betting and sports betting pick in this one.

Even though the spread is difficult to cover in Monday games on road trips, the Yankees have too much firepower to even let the D’backs stick around in this one as sports betting fans will discover tonight.

: New York Yankees (-1 ½).
