MLB Betting – Can White Sox Topple Pirates on the Road?

June 17, 2010

The Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates can both be considered teams in a state of transition right now, but each has some building blocks and each is still fighting for pride, as MLB betting and sports betting fans are aware of.

The White Sox still have a slight chance of making a comeback in the AL Central division and while most sports betting fans aren’t laying any cash on them, it’s not out of the question. Ozzie Guillen is a competitive manager, that’s for sure.

As for the Pirates, last place has become a reality yet again, something MLB betting fans expected. But they’re not far away from moving up the standings into a better place.

MLB betting line: Chicago White Sox (-1 ½) favored.

The Pirates are so used to losing and being at the bottom of the NL Central that they are now in a position where they would do anything to avoid the cellar.

Considering they’re also a young team in the middle of a transition, the young players on the Pirates can be expected to fight hard.

But the White Sox have a big pitching advantage in this one with Buehrle. Buehrle is the kind of finesse pitcher with the command necessary to dominate NL lineups.

The Pirates don’t have the kind of consistent hitting up and down the lineup to make this one anything but a pitcher’s duel.

With Ohlendorf on the mound, someone who has already struggled against AL lineups in the past, Pittsburgh is in trouble in this one because they can’t match the White Sox either offensively or defensively.

With a staggering 150+ run differential in a negative way this year, MLB betting and sports betting fans know that covering 1 ½ runs isn’t a whole lot for a team like Chicago to accomplish.

The sports betting fan’s smart pick is to go with Buehrle and the White Sox in this one.

MLB betting pick: Chicago White Sox (-1 ½).
