MLB Betting – Vazquez Jeopardizes Yankees Sweep Of Twins
May 27, 2010
It’s easy for the MLB betting public to suddenly think Javier Vazquez is a decent starting pitcher to bet on since he’s won his last two starts. However, if you ask the New York Yankees fans, they’re still a little tepid about how solid he really is. If Vazquez breaks up the Yankees’ chance to sweep the Minnesota Twins, it will send a ripple of groans and moans straight through New York City.
Vazquez was torn up through April, and although he’s enjoying a much better month in May he’s still just 3-4 SU in 8 starts this season with a season ERA of 6.69. It’s not just hits you have to worry about with Vazquez. He’s allowed 27 runs on 38 hits in 36.1 innings.
New York Yankees (28-18) vs. Minnesota Twins (26-20)
Thursday, May 27th — TARGET Field — 8:10pm EST
MLB Betting Lines:
NYY – Javier Vazquez (R) -1.5 +140 -115 O 9.0 -105
MIN – Nick Blackburn (R) +1.5 -160 -105 U 9.0 -115
It does help that comfort your nerves that the Yankees are 14-1 SU in their last 15 games in Minnesota. The Twins are also stuck in a three-game losing streak and trying intently to finally reward their MLB betting backers. As an underdog tonight, they’re getting much better odds because of their recent losses.
Where To Watch: YES, FSNO
One of the elements that has to give the Twins a sense of ease tonight is that Nick Blackburn is undefeated in four starts in May. His season record is 5-1 SU with a 4.50 ERA on the season. He allows a horrendous amount of hits, but closing out innings has been his specialty. In 54.0 innings he’s allowed 64 hits and only 27 runs.
The Twins are also 7-1 SU when Blackburn gets the start. One of those wins came against the Yankees in mid-May when he allowed 9 hits and 3 runs in 7 innings. Minnesota won that game 6-3.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I don’t fully trust Javier Vazquez. He plays marginally better when he doesn’t have the scrutinizing eyes of New York’s fans bearing down on him, but against a team that boasts heavy bats like Minnesota, he’s a stay away. The run-line is a definite no-no considering that Blackburn gives up so many hits, and the Yankees can capitalize, but when all is said done the Twins will end the possibility of a sweep and earn the victory.
