MLB Betting – Orioles vs Mariners

There are few teams in Major League Baseball struggling more than the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners right now. Something will have to give, when they face off in Tuesday night’s betting odds.

Seattle: -1 ½, +135, -145

In the first game of this series, Baltimore’s offense was as anemic as ever, as Seattle starter Doug Fister took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and the Orioles managed just two runs on five hits total. They’ll certainly need a better performance Tuesday.
Despite woeful pitching, the biggest problem for Baltimore early on has actually been that offense, which is one of the worst in the league. On the season, they score an average of just 3.14 runs a game, which ranks them 29th out of 30 Major League teams, and their team batting average puts them at 24th overall. Several players are off to slow starts, and it’s never a good sign when your highest hitting regular is only batting .286. Which is the case in Baltimore, where catcher Matt Wieters leads the team in that category.
On the mound Tuesday will be pitcher David Hernandez, a righty who has been effective early on, even if his record doesn’t reflect it. On the season, Hernandez sports an 0-2 record, but he also has kept the Orioles in games, giving up just six runs in those two starts. Unfortunately the offense behind him hasn’t helped, as he’s been a tough luck loser, including a tight 3-0 loss in his last start against Toronto.
As for Seattle, they understand Baltimore’s offense struggles, as the Mariners rank 27th in the majors in runs scored (3.79 a game) and have hit a meek six home runs on the season. Yes, six home runs. As a team!
They’ll send starter Jason Vargas to the mound, in hopes that he can keep things close. On the season, Vargas is 1-1, and coming off an impressive win against Oakland, where he pitched six innings and gave up just two runs. Both of his starts have played under.
Truthfully, there’s no nice way to say this, but if you like high-scoring offensive baseball, this is not the game for you. But if you’ll enjoy a quality pitching matchup, between two underrated starters, than Baltimore-Seattle is your game.
But who should you take in your baseball bet Tuesday night? The play here is Seattle.
The truth is that as bad as the Mariners have been, they are playing a bit better than early in the season, and have won four of their last five games. Baltimore, well… It’s going to be a long season.
There are few certainties in life, but Seattle to cover your baseball bet on Tuesday night sounds like a pretty good one.
