MLB Betting – Mariners Aim To Take Three Of Four From Twins
June 3, 2010
Despite their well-documented struggles through the opening two months of the 2010 season, the Mariners have played recently well at home over the past couple of weeks, winning four of their past five at Safeco field, including a sweep of their two-game mini series against the Detroit Tigers, and two of the first three against the Minnesota Twins. Now, the Mariners look to continue the long climb back to .500 in the final game of the series against the Twins, whose recent struggles come on the heels of a five-game winning streak.

The Week That Was: Twins
Even though the Twins have opened the month with consecutive losses to the Mariners, Minnesota is still hoping June will end up being as kind to the team as May was. Despite splitting the first 24 games of the second month of the season, the Twins rallied to win four of their last five, and were as high as 11 games above .500 entering June. Minnesota has struggled on the road all year, as illustrated by their 13-13 record away from home.
Run support has been the biggest problem in dropping the first two games, as the Twins have managed just two runs combined in the losses. One hitter who hasn’t struggled is Joe Mauer, who after going 1-for-3 with a walk on Wednesday night is hitting a career .378 against the Mariners, the highest active batting average in the Majors against Seattle. The Twins will need more than just a solid outing for Mauer to even their series with the Mariners.
The Week That Was: Mariners
Despite high expectations leading in to the 2010 campaign, the Mariners have struggled to a 21-31 record to start the season, which has left them in the basement of the American League West, 11.5 games back of the first-place Texas Rangers. Seattle has scored a combined 23 runs over its past five home games, a big reason why they’ve won four of them. Now the Mariners will try to make it three in a row as they continue to try to build a winning foundation in Seattle.
The Match Up: Twins vs Mariners
Carl Pavano has struggled somewhat this season in Minnesota, although one of his better outings did come against this same Mariners team. Of the four games these teams played, it would have made the most sense of Seattle won this one, with Felix Hernandez on the mound. However, after losing two of the first three to open the series, this game becomes that much more important to Minnesota for keeping their lead over the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central standings.
