MLB Betting – Halladay Will Try To Be Perfect Against Marlins Again
June 10, 2010
Less than two weeks ago it was these same two clubs meeting on the diamond, with these same two pitchers taking to the mound, and the memories from that game are of Major League Baseball history.
Roy Halliday became just the 20th pitcher in baseball history to pitch a perfect game in the Philadelphia Phillies’ 1-0 win that night, outdueling Florida Marlins’ starter Josh Johnson, who himself went seven strong while allowing just one run.
Now, on the heels of Wednesday’s rained out contest, these two pitchers are back on the mound against one another to complete their series at Citizens Bank Park.

The Week That Was: Marlins
After taking two of three at home against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Marlins opened a nine-game road trip on a terrible note by getting swept in a three-game set by the New York Mets. The trifecta of defeats included a pair of one-run losses, as Florida allowed an average of just under six runs a game over that span.
A day off while traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies didn’t help and the Marlins’ pitching problems continued as they dropped the opener 10-8.
The Week That Was: Phillies
The Phillies were glad to see the Marlins come in to town as Florida is the last team that Philadelphia won a series against.
Since taking two of three against the Marlins however, the Phillies were swept by the division-leading Atlanta Braves, then after taking the first two against the San Diego Padres, allowed that opponent to earn the series split by dropping the next two.
A 10-8 win over Florida on Tuesday has stopped the bleeding temporarily, and after Wednesday night’s rain delay, Philadelphia will have to be ready to close the series out with a win.
The Match Up: Marlins vs Phillies
While the Marlins are hoping that a start from their ace Josh Johnson will help them earn a split in what has become a two-game set, they also understand that the guy pitching for the other team is pretty good too, perfect even, as he was in his last start against Florida.
Halladay will need to be at his best again for Philadelphia, who after tonight will be on the road for the next week, including trips through Boston to play the Red Sox, and New York where they will battle the team with the second best record in baseball, the hated Yankees.
MLB Betting Pick: Phillies -140
