MLB Betting – Angels Attempt To Extend Win Streak Against Athletics

The Los Angeles Angels have played as well as they have all season to finish off the month of May and through the first week of June, winning six straight games and nine of their last ten games to move four games above .500, and reclaim the top spot in the American League West, one-half game up on the Texas Rangers.

Now, after taking the first of a four-game set against an Oakland Athletics team that has dropped consecutive series’ to the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins, the Angels look to increase the gap between them and the rest of the division when they hook up with the A’s again on Tuesday night.

The Week That Was: Angels 

The Angels have been on an absolute tear, as after struggling to a mark four games below .500 late in to the month of May, and ranking third behind both the Athletics and Rangers in the division standings, Los Angeles has come on to win nine of ten against the Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, and Seattle Mariners. Four of their five series’ heading in to this four-game set with Oakland was against the Royals and the Mariners, who are a combined 17 games below .500. However, Los Angeles could have just as easily continued to struggle against lesser competition, but instead they have been able to break out and get back on top. 

The Week That Was: Athletics 

Back-to-back-to-back series wins, including a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants had fans in Oakland talking about the possible chances of their team winning a division title in 2010. However, after losing five of seven against the Red Sox and Twins, the Athletics’ optimism has been temporarily put on hold.  A lack of quality pitching has been the main culprit for their struggles, as Oakland has given up four runs or more in each of their past five losses. 

The Match Up:

While the Angels are getting solid pitching performances, timely hitting, and a little bit of luck, nothing seems to be going right for the Athletics. Now, Oakland will rely on 23-year old Vin Mazzaro and his 6.08 ERA to help them steal the second of this four-game set against Los Angeles. If the Athletics are going to have any chance in this one their hitters are going to have to find a way to get to Saunders early. If not, this could be a long night for fans making the trip out to the ball park in Oakland.
