Missing the Big Ticket – Charlotte Bobcats vs. Boston Celtics

April 1, 2009

Bobcats Barrel In To Boston For A Beantown Beatdown

The only thing more annoying than my obsessions with alliteration is the Celtics against the betting line. Kevin Garnett is the main culprit, and while I find it hard to fault one of my favorite players in the league, that knee injury is driving the Boston sports betting faithful absolutely crazy.

Yes, they’ve gone 51 ATS in their last 6 games, but Kevin Garnett just got shut down for the season so he can repair his wobbly knee for a playoff push. The Celtics weren’t kidding when they said that their main focus was on getting healthy, and that winning wasn’t a priority. There goes home court advantage, Boston. Nice job.

NBA Betting Trends

  • Charlotte is 62 SU in its last 8 games
  • Charlotte is 63 ATS in its last 9 games on the road
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of Charlotte’s last 8 games on the road
  • Charlotte is 61 ATS in its last 7 games when playing Boston
  • Boston is 51 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Boston is 51 SU in its last 6 games at home
  • The total has gone OVER in 15 of Boston’s last 21 games at home

And if you haven’t noticed by now, then take notice because the Charlotte Bobcats are coming on like a six year old who drank eighteen Red Bulls. Charlotte has managed to beat the Lakers, Knicks and Sixers in their last three games, upsetting the playoff hopeful teams and covering the spread. With that, the Bobcats have thrust themselves in to playoff relevance.

That’s the main difference here. One team is driving in to the playoffs at full speed, and the other is already there, preferring to sit on its laurels instead of finishing strong. Has nobody learned anything from Jon Gruden’s idiocy? You keep driving until the car burns to the ground!

NBA Betting Line: Boston 8.5 (180)

I like the Bobcats way too much right now to doubt then, especially without Kevin Garnett. While an outright win could be a stretch considering that the Celtics still have Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. I’m pushing this hideously low total as well, suggesting the OVER as the Bobcats cover.

I’m not willing to bet against the kind of momentum that Gerald Wallace feeds off of like a rabid dog.

NBA Betting Free Pick: Charlotte +8.5 (OVER)
