Minnesota Twins vs New York Mets – Bet on Baseball

June 26, 2010

It’ll be an emotional day in New York, as former Minnesota Twins superstar Johan Santana takes on his former team in some exciting baseball betting action. But with each squad fighting for an early playoff berth, who should you wager on?

Minnesota Twins (40-32 SU, 34-38 R/L, 30-37-5 O/U) at New York Mets (41-31 SU, 46-26 R/L, 32-36-4 O/U)

Saturday, June 26: 1:10 p.m.

Minnesota:
(Carl Pavano-R)

New York:
(Johan Santana-L)

Santana certainly has good memories of Minnesota, where he spent the first eight years of his career, and won two Cy Young’s. Since coming to New York, Santana has quickly emerged as the ace of this staff, and the King of Queens, but lately it’s been a struggle for the lefty.

So far in 2010, he has actually been an average pitcher with a 5-4 record and just a 3.31 ERA. He has especially struggled of late, giving up 12 earned runs in his last three starts.

On Saturday, Santana will be backed by one of the surprisingly good lineups in baseball this year. The Mets don’t wow you with skill, but their 4.65 runs per game and .260 team batting average both rank them in the top half of baseball.

Third baseman David Wright looks as though he’s regained his All-Star form of a few years back, as he’s already belted 12 bombs and driven in 57 runs, just a year after going for just 10 and 72. Jose Reyes leads this team with 82 hits.

As for Minnesota, they come to Citi Field in first place in the AL’s Central Division, but lost three in a row in Milwaukee earlier this week. Minnesota’s bats went especially cold during their visit to the Brewers, as they mustered just eight runs in four games, and were shut out Thursday. They’ll need a much better effort against Santana.

On the mound, Minnesota will send righty Carl Pavano, who is most infamous for his stay in New York, as a much despised member of the Yankees. However, he’s bounced back well in the Twin Cities, as Pavano already has eight wins early in the season. His 3.64 ERA is second amongst Minnesota’s starting rotation.

So with this big interleague series underway, who should be your Saturday baseball bet? Take the Twins in the baseball betting odds.

While Santana comes into this game with the name recognition, it’s actually Pavano who has been pitching better of late, as he’s allowed three earned runs or less and secured wins in four of his last five starts. Santana on the other hand has been a loser in two of his last three.

Yes the Mets may be the flashier team with the bigger names, but it’s Minnesota you want on Saturday. Make them your baseball bet now!
