Middle Tennessee State to Cover Big College Football Betting Odds vs. UL-Monroe
October 23, 2010
It’s tough to back Middle Tennessee State to cover a double-digit college football betting spread versus the UL-Monroe Warhawks on Oct. 23rd.
The Blue Raiders, that’s Middle Tennessee State, are 2 and 4 straight up, 1 and 5 ATS, and 0 and 3 ATS at home. The Blue Raiders have lost 3 out of their last 4 games and have only covered a spread against UL-Lafayette as 2 ½ point favorites in a 34 to 14 victory this season.

Do they have any shot of covering a double-digit spread against the Warhawks on Saturday?

NCAAF Betting Lines
UL-Monroe Warhawks +11 ½ -110 O 53 ½ -110
MTS Blue Raiders -11 ½ -110 U 53 ½ -110
The college football betting trends favor the Blue Raiders in this game.
- The Blue Raiders are 7 and 1 ATS in their last 8 conference games.
- The Blue Raiders are 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite of 10 ½ points or greater.
- The UL-Monroe Warhawks are 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 road games.
- The UL-Monroe Warhawks are 1 and 4 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog on the road.
The college football betting odds makers must really have faith in the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders. I don’t understand why, really, because the Blue Raiders haven’t shown anything that would lead me to believe that they could beat an 8 man high school football team, much less the UL-Monroe Warhawks.
The Blue Raiders have played tough teams lately, Georgia Tech and Troy aren’t bad, but they’ve been smoked by those tough teams. Tech beat the Blue Raiders 42 to 14 as 18 ½ point favorites. The Blue Raiders lost to Troy 13 to 42 as 4-point favorites.
Maybe, MTS just isn’t a very good football team. I wonder if the college football betting odds makers considered that possibility before setting the wagering odds for this game. There’s no reason, none that I can see, for why the Blue Raiders are -11 ½ point favorites over UL-Monroe. I also don’t understand why 69% of football handicappers actually believe that the Blue Raiders will cover the spread.
Am I missing something? From what I see, the Warhawks should be the team to back versus the spread in this game. UL-Monroe has won their last 2 games both straight up and ATS. They beat Florida International 20 to 17 as 2 ½ point favorites. They beat Western Kentucky 35 to 30 as 2 ½ point dogs.
Why are they big dogs versus Middle Tennessee State? I have no idea. The college football betting line gives the Blue Raiders too much credit in my mind. The Blue Raiders haven’t shown a desire to cover spreads yet this season, much less win football games. I’m not sure they’re capable of covering a double-digit spread and because of that, I’m going to have to back the UL-Monroe Warhawks in this game.
The Warhawks have won 3 out of their last 4 games straight up and are receiving close to 12 points right off the bat in this game. I have to take the college football betting points in this game and go with UL-Monroe.
NCAAF Betting Pick: UL-Monroe Warhawks +11 ½ -110
