Michigan is the Favorite to Beat UConn in NCAAF Football Betting
September 4, 2010
Although the Michigan Wolverines have suffered through some tremendously awful seasons lately, and continue to have equally bad off-seasons, they are getting the benefit of the doubt by the NCAAF football betting odds makers.
The odds makers have made the Wolverines a 3 ½ point favorite to beat the UConn Huskies on Saturday afternoon, September 4th. High expectations welcome the Michigan Wolverines this season but those high expectations should probably be tempered some. As of this writing, coach Rich Rodriguez hasn’t stated who his starting quarterback would be on Saturday. Last year, Rich Rod used both Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson.

Quarterback by committee is not the way to win in the Big Ten, but will it be the way to win, and cover the NCAAF football betting against the spread line, versus a Big East team like Connecticut?

NCAAF Betting Lines
Connecticut Huskies +3 -110 O 54 ½ -110
Michigan Wolverines -3 -110 U 54 ½ -110
The college football betting trends favor the Connecticut Huskies in this game.
- The Connecticut Huskies are 12 and 2 in their last 14 games overall.
- The Connecticut Huskies are 7 and 0 against the spread in their last 7 games on the road.
- The Connecticut Huskies are 5 and 0 against the spread in their last 5 games in September.
- The Michigan Wolverines are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games in September.
The truth is that if the Wolverines want to win the Big Ten, then they are going to have to start Tate Forcier at quarterback. The fact that Rich Rod is hesitant to do so has to give Michigan fans nightmares.
Since arriving in Ann Arbor, coach Richard Rodriguez has done nothing but run the Michigan football program into the ground. The Wolverines have become an NCAAF football betting game laughingstock in the Big Ten since Rich Rod took charge. I like him as a person and maybe even as a coach, don’t get me wrong, but his style of coaching and his offensive schemes aren’t conducive to winning games in the Big Ten. Rich Rod really needs to step it up this season.
He knows he does, and yet he hasn’t named a starting QB for the first game of the season against the Connecticut Huskies. Make no mistake, the Huskies are a very, very good team. Connecticut returns 8 starters on offense and 8 starters on defense from a team that went 8 and 5 in 2009 but didn’t lose a single one of those games by more than 4 points.
This team could be one of the surprise teams in a better than it looks on paper Big East while the Michigan Wolverines might be as bad as they were in 2009 when they lost 7 out of their last 8 games, including 5 in a row, after starting the season 4 and 0.
I can already see the Connecticut defenders salivating at the prospect of taking down either Forcier or Robinson, they don’t care, and I see the Connecticut offense picking apart the depth-less Michigan defense.
I see two potential NCAAF football betting wagers to make in this game. The first is on Connecticut at +3 -110. The second is on under the total of 54 ½ points. I just don’t see Michigan scoring against that superb Huskies’ defense and I definitely don’t see Michigan covering the spread in this game.
NCAAF Betting Pick: Connecticut Huskies +3 -110 or Under 54 ½ -110
