May 27th Post Times and Horse Picks

June 1, 2009

With most tracks running on Monday, which was Memorial Day, most of the major tracks are dark today. That leaves slim pickings for opportunities to pad our bankroll.

However, one track that is running is Charles Town, which was the first track I ever went to back in my younger days.

We will try to take down the Late Pick 4 today in my old stomping grounds:

Charles Town Race 6 Clm $4,000N1Y (9:15 ET)

#6 In the Nick ships back after a start at PImlico where the gelding was off poorly and never a threat. This gelding has some early zip and showed it two and three back where he was on the lead before weakening. He catches a field here where he could shake loose, and if he does, he may prove tough to catch here.

#2 Strghtup Twelve is likely going to go off as the favorite as he makes his second start off the claim by a sharp barn. He also made his last start at PImlico where he was near the back of the pack early and made a good late run to finish in the runner up spot.

Charles Town Race 7 OClm $32,000N2X (9:39 ET)

#7 Fond Moment won at this condition two back and then last out failed to fire her best, stalking the early pace and coming up short in the stretch in a fifth place finish. She is better than she showed last out and perhaps just have an off day. She has won 6 of 11 over the main track here and the barn has been on fire at the meet, hitting with 10 of 18 starters.

#6 Mysterious Bandit returns to the optional claiming ranks after failing to threaten last out in stake company at Pimlico. The seven-year-old beat Alw-3 optional claimers three back at Penn and has won two of her three starts here. She owns a solid pace profile throughout and looks like a good fit here at this level

Charles Town Race 8 Clm $4,000N3X (10:03 ET)

#4 Give Us This Day could not catch a loose on the lead gate to wire winner last out and was well clear of the rest of the field in the runner up finish, 8 ¾ lengths clear of the third place finisher. Since coming to West Virginia from Canada this guy has been in the mix in all four starts including beating non-winners of three in his first start over the main track here three back.

#5 Knox County made a good late run to finish third last out at this condition in a good effort. The runner up in the race was Big Stoney, who came back to beat no winners of three in his next outing on May 16. Two back this guy earned a career top speed fig in a runner up finish behind repeat winner Makinmoon, who beat $4K non-winners of four on May 21.

Charles Town Race 9 Md Sp Wt (10:27 ET)

#2 Working On It makes start #10 here and that is usually about the time I like to jump off the bandwagon, but we’ll give her one more shot to get the job done here. Last out she tracked the early pace and came up short late in a third place finish. The runner up in the race was Nana Louise, who came back to graduate in her next outing against maiden special weight company on May 23. The filly gets an upgrade in jocks to Reynolds and is quick enough she will be a pace factor in here from the break.

#9 Skip N Glide showed good early speed in her debut but was not able to hold off the winner in a runner up finish. She is in a sharp barn and does not need to move forward much off that effort to be in the mix here.

The Pick 4 play: #1: 2,6,8 / 2,6,7 / 4 / 1,2,8,9 = $36

Good luck padding your bankroll today!
