Mavericks Fresh off Big Win – Dallas at New Orleans

March 6, 2009

It’s time to put some more bankroll-boosting money in my beloved NBA sports bettors’ respective pockets on tonight’s contest between the Dallas Mavericks (37-24 SU, 29-32 ATS, 29-32 O/U) and New Orleans Hornets (37-22 SU, 24-33-2 ATS, 27-20-2 O/U).

The Mavericks are coming off a solid 107-102 home win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday and will look to halt the red-hot winning streak when they visit their division rivals at New Orleans Arena tonight.

Dallas covered the spread in the BetOnline Sportsbook as 3.5-point home favorites while the 209 combined points played well over the posted O/U total of 189 points.

All-star forward Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double while small forward Josh Howard poured in a team-high 29 points.

The Hornets beat the Philadelphia 76ers 98-91 on Monday night to cover the spread for BetOnline NBA sports betting members as a 3.5-point road underdog just as I predicted in the BetOnline Locker Room that day while the final score played Under the 189.5-point O/U total.

All-star forward David West totaled for 30 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hornets to victory.

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and NBA Free Pick.

The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Dallas’s last 5 games on the road

Dallas is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games

The total has gone OVER in 4 of Dallas’s last 5 games when playing on the road against New Orleans

Dallas is 18-7 SU in its last 25 games when playing New Orleans

New Orleans is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games

New Orleans is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Dallas

New Orleans is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games at home

New Orleans is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games when playing Dallas

NBA Odds

Dallas Mavericks +6½ -110

New Orleans Hornets -6½ -110

Over 196½ -110

Under 196½ -110

Analysis: The Hornets have won a league-best five consecutive games but had dropped five straight against the spread until covering against Philly on Monday.

While I like the Hornets to keep their winning streak alive, I just don’t see a 7-point win over the Mavericks – though they’ve disappointed me on several occasions this season.

On another note, these two teams have combined to alternate ATS wins and losses in each of the last five games, with New Orleans covering in their last contest.

Take the Mavs and the Under NBA sports betting buffs.
