Masters 2011 Sportsbook – What Is Going To Happen With Mickelson And Woods? Bet On It
April 6, 2011
The Masters 2011 sportsbook odds encompass a lot of things, not the least of which involves what is going to happen to the two most well-known players in the field, who also happen to be the two favorites. Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Those icons have seven Masters titles between them, and if you want to track them, you can bet almost everything about the performance this week. Of course, the Masters Tournament takes place from Thursday through Sunday at Augusta National, and Mickelson is at +600 in the Masters 2011 sportsbook, while Woods is +850. Wagering obviously goes well beyond that.
Tiger hasn’t won in a while; are you skeptical about his ability to make the cut? If you are, and if he doesn’t, you can cash in at a +425 price in the Masters 2011 sportsbook odds. The "anti-Tiger" betting doesn’t have to end there, either. You can get +1500 that he shoots a double bogey or worse on the first hole, which might just follow a tee shot that misses the fairway, for which you can be paid at +150.
He is -115 either way to score "over" or "under" a 36 on the front nine in the first round of play, and the Masters 2011 sportsbook oddsmaker has a little more faith in him to do better on the back nine, as he is listed at -135 to go under 35.5 strokes. If you don’t think he’ll be in the lead after any round, you’ll have to lay a price of -500.
You can be daring if you’d like, but if you want to bet against Mickelson making the cut, you’re going to be laying -2000 in the Masters 2011 sportsbook. And he is -180 to shoot a par on the first hole of the tournament, with a +400 price for a bogey, +300 for a birdie and 80/1 for an eagle (Hint: on a Par 4, an eagle is pretty tough).
Of course, betting on Woods or Mickelson isn’t all you’ve got to choose from. You can bet on the "Top American" (where Mickelson is +250). "Top Asian," "Top European" and a whole lot more.
If betting on the "Top European" category is of little interest, you can wager on the "Top Continental European," which has as the favorite the world’s #1 player, Martin Kaymer, priced at +150 while the next contenders, Sergio Garcia and Francesco Molinari, are at +600 apiece in the Masters 2011 sportsbook to win this category. We know that Garcia has plenty of experience at Augusta, with a couple of top ten finishes, but he’s not been higher than 38th since 2004. Molinari tied for 30th last year in his only Masters appearance to date. Kaymer hasn’t made the cut at Augusta in three tries. The only Masters winner who is in this category is Jose Maria Olazabal, who won it in 1994 and 1999 and tied for third as recently as 2006.
Remember that this is an international tournament by design, so you’ll have various parts of the globe well-represented. The Scandinavian players are good, and they are looking for a breakout in a major. Robert Karlsson, who tied for eighth at Augusta in 2008, is favored to be the "Top Scandinavian" (+180 in the Masters 2011 sportsbook odds to win) and he’s followed by Henrik Stenson (+300), who tied for third in last year’s British Open.
What nationality will the winner be, and what are the odds on it? Well, an American (like Woods or Mickelson) is -160, while it is +175 that a European will win it (hasn’t happened since 1999). As for it coming from the "Rest of the World," that’s a +500 price, at the Masters 2011 sportsbook!
