We’ll open the NFL Week 9 Picks with a look at an intriguing matchup between two potential AFC playoff teams, the Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens.

Baltimore is coming off a much needed bye week, after they were very close to being upset by the league’s worst team, the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago. The Ravens squeaked out a win, despite horrible play on defense, where they allowed Buffalo to pick them apart for an unfathomable 518 yards. That’ll certainly need to get better, against an improving Miami team.

Speaking of Miami, they enter this one playing well, having beaten Cincinnati last week, and nearly upsetting the Pittsburgh Steelers just one week before that. For Miami to win Sunday though, they’ll need to figure out a way to put the ball in the end zone on offense, something they haven’t done lately. Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter booted five field goals a week ago, a week after kicking five against Pittsburgh.

To put it simply, if you can’t put the ball in the end zone, you can’t beat the Ravens, which is the reason Baltimore needs to be one of your NFL Week 9 Picks.

The Ravens can’t possibly be as bad as they were two weeks ago, and with some time to rest up, look for them to get the comfortable home win.

NFL Week 9 Pick: Baltimore -5

New England Patriots (6-1 SU, 4-2-1 ATS) at Cleveland Browns (2-5 SU, 3-4 ATS)

Sunday, November 7: 1:00 p.m. CBS, Live from Cleveland Browns Stadium, Cleveland, OH

Betting Odds:

New England: -4 ½

Cleveland: +4 ½

Total: 43 ½

As for a team that’s had no trouble putting the ball in the end zone, the New England Patriots hit the road confident that they can improve their record to 7-1 with a win at Cleveland.

It won’t come easy, as the Browns are coming off a bye week, which was preceded by a stunning win in New Orleans a week before that. The key Sunday will be quarterback play. Rookie Colt McCoy got the win in New Orleans, but only after injuries to Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme. Coach Eric Mangini hasn’t gone on the record and said who’ll get the call this Sunday, and until that happens, it’s hard to evaluate this game.

Still, the play here is New England. Yes they’re giving less than a touchdown on the road, but this group has seemed like a different team in the last couple weeks. While their offense isn’t as dynamic without superstar Randy Moss, they are playing better as a unit, and figuring out ways to pull out victories. Last weekend it was running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis who came up big with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

We’re not sure who’ll get the call this week, but whoever it is will come up big. Take the Patriots in the NFL Week 9 Picks.

NFL Week 9 Pick: New England -4 ½

Kansas City Chiefs (5-2 SU, 5-2 ATS) at Oakland Raiders (4-4 SU, 5-3 ATS)

Sunday, November 7: 4:15 p.m. CBS, Live from Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

Betting Odds:

Kansas City: +3

Oakland: -3

Total: 40 ½

Coming into the season, who would’ve ever thought that the AFC West could come down to a matchup between the Chiefs and Raiders? Well that’s exactly what’s happening Sunday, as first place will be on the line. Which should be your Week 9 Picks?

For Oakland, there’s no easy answer as to why they’ve turned things around this year, but they have, as the Raiders- yes those Raiders- have won two in a row in convincing fashion. After embarrassing the Broncos in Denver two weeks ago, they followed that up with a 33-3 win over the Seahawks last Sunday. The star of that game was the much maligned Jason Campbell, who had by far his best game of 2010, throwing for 310 yards and two touchdown scores.

Still, many believe the Chiefs are the play to make here. They are coming off back-to-back wins against Jacksonville and Buffalo, and have emerged as the NFL’s top running team.

However, as shocking as this sounds, take the Raiders as one of your NFL Week 9 Picks. Not only is this team playing at an incredibly high level the last two weeks, but Kansas City was lucky to escape with a win last Sunday. This will be their first road game in three weeks and it shouldn’t be a surprise if they struggle.

NFL Week 9 Picks: Oakland -3

Indianapolis Colts (5-2 SU, 4-2-1 ATS) at Philadelphia Eagles (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS)

Sunday, November 7: 4:15 p.m. CBS, Live from Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA

Betting Odds:

Indianapolis: +3

Philadelphia: -3

Total: 46 ½

The last of the NFL Week 9 Picks takes us to Philadelphia, where the Eagles are coming off a bye, and ready to reestablish themselves as the team to beat in the NFC.

What this game ultimately comes down to with Philadelphia is quarterback play. When Kevin Kolb plays well this team wins, and when he doesn’t, they don’t. Kolb threw for three touchdowns and just one interception in a win over Atlanta three weeks ago, but then followed that up with a two interception dud in a loss to Tennessee, in a game in which he barely completed 50 percent of his passes.

Still, the play to make here is the Eagles. But really, it has more to do with the Colts than them.

Indianapolis is coming off a huge win at home Monday night, against divisional rival Houston. And despite the good vibes, they’ve now got to hit the road, on a short week, against a team coming off a bye. That’s a recipe for disaster.

The Eagles need to be one of your NFL Week 9 Picks.
