Often times Santa Anita’s featured race during the week is a 6 ½ furlong dash on the downhill turf course.

Such is the case with Santa Anita’s 7th race on the card this Friday. Our top pick, Star Nicholas, finished second on Thursday. Racebook fans that went with Star Nicholas didn’t pick up any great online betting profits with the pick, but hopefully the second place finish helped cut some of the losses.

Dream Now – - 7/2 online betting odds

Dream Now won his second lifetime race down the hillside turf course at this distance. That’s not the only thing to like about the morning line chalk. There’s also the prospect that he might just be better than the rest of these as he tracked the pacesetters in his maiden score and then beat the field like a drum by 5 ½ lengths at the finish. This could be one serious racehorse. Trainer Julio Canani is hitting at 40% with his starters and jockey David Flores was up for the maiden score. Dream Now is going to be tough in this.

Mensa Heat – - 8/1 online betting odds

Mensa Heat actually has a nice shot in this from just off the pace. He ran very well the last time he was on the turf and his daddy, Unusual Heat, is known for producing very good turf horses. He bombed in his last but that was on the Pro-Ride surface. Now, he’s back on the turf where he should put in a nice run.

When We Met – - 4/1 online betting odds

This fella from the barn of Mark Glatt could absolutely relish the turf or he could absolutely hate it. He finished fifth in the Real Quiet Stakes in November and has been on the shelf since then. His works on the turf and his breeding says that he has a shot in this but I’m afraid that the online odds might go too low for me to put him on top. We shall see.

Wagering Strategy

Dream Now is actually a very nice horse to win and place at online odds of 2 to 1 or higher. He was sensational in his last and could romp against these. I will use Dream Now as a key horse in an exacta and trifecta bet with When We Met and Mensa Heat.
