Low Thoroughbred Wagering Odds on Horses in Race 10 at Fairplex

September 23, 2010

Horseplayers must be willing to accept low thoroughbred wagering odds on the horse they like to win Race 10 at Fairplex on Thursday, Sept. 23rd.

The Fair has been somewhat chalky these past few weeks. Even though I’m always looking for nice prices when wagering, sometimes a horseplayer has to just admit when the chalk is running well and use that chalk to try for decent exacta scores or nice win bet hits.

Because there are only 5 horses entered in Race 10 at Fairplex on Thursday, almost all of the horses with a shot at the victory figure to be going off at low thoroughbred wagering odds.  That’s okay.  Low thoroughbred wagering odds isn’t the same as underlaid thoroughbred wagering odds.

1 1/16th miles over dirt

5 – L’Enchanteresse – - 5/2 morning line odds

I’m hoping the fact that L’Enchanteresse is 1 for 19 lifetime will cause a lot of horseplayers to discount her chances.  I’m looking for better odds than the 5/2 morning line.  I might not get it, however, because L’Enchanteresse runs for 35% at the meet winning trainer Doug O’Neil and will be ridden by 41% at the meet winning jockey Martin Pedroza.  Like a couple of others in here, the daughter of Killachy might prefer turf.  Then again, L’Enchanteresse has never run over anything other than an aritificial surface or the lawn.  Who’s to say she doesn’t take to the dirt?  If she does, she’ll have a huge shot of winning the 10th at Fairplex on Thursday.

2 – Sweetsouthernqueen – - 3/1 morning line odds

Trainer Mike Mitchell is 0 for 8 at the Fairplex meet but that could all change on Thursday when he saddles this daughter of Sweetsouthernsaint in the 10th.  Mitchell wins 30% first after the claim and Sweetsouthernqueen has won 3 out of 7 races at this distance.  The 6-year-old mare is also a confirmed dirt horse meaning that she won’t have any issues with the Fairplex racing surface.  She’s got a big shot to win the 10th on Thursday.

4- Sky Chant – - 7/2 morning line odds

Like L’Enchanteresse, Sky Chant has never run over dirt.  She figures to have no issues gliding over the surface, however, because her daddy, War Chant, was almost as good on dirt as he was on turf and her granddaddy, Danzig, has produced many a fine dirt horse.  Sky Chant also might get the perfect trip pressing likely chalk Operetta Italiano.  If nobody else wants the lead, Sky Chant is more than capable of taking it and going gate-to-wire in this race.

Horse Wagering Strategy

I’m hoping L’Enchanteresse’s terrible race record leads to higher thoroughbred wagering odds than her 5/2 morning line.  At 3/1 or higher, I will bet on her to win.

I will also bet an exacta with L’Enchanteresse over Sky Chant and Sweetsouthernqueen.  I will reverse the exacta for less.  By leaving likely underlay Operetta Italiano out of the exacta, I’m hoping for overlaid exacta odds.

Good luck!
