The story of this game isn’t who’s on the field, but actually who isn’t. That’d be projected Middle Tennessee starting quarterback Dwight Dasher.

The senior was supposed to be the star of the show this year, but has been suspended for the first three games and this one as well for borrowing money over the summer. In his absence, the Blue Raiders have gone just 1-2, their lone win against I-AA Austin Peay.

In Dasher’s place, both Logan Kilgore and Jeff Murphy have taken snaps at quarterback. Kilgore is expected to get the nod this weekend, and he is the one hope Middle Tennessee has in winning this game. In his two starts, Kilgore has completed 65 percent of his passes, but has thrown two touchdowns and four interceptions. He was particularly bad last weekend in a loss at Memphis, where he threw three picks in a 24-17 loss.

As for Louisiana-Lafayette, they enter this weekend’s college football spread betting at 1-1, and already have one win under their belts in the race for the Sun Belt conference title.

The Rajin’ Cajuns haven’t played in two weeks, but in their last outing, they were spectacular in their performance against Arkansas State, scoring 24 first half points, before having to weather a late game surge by Red Wolves and hold on for a 31-24 victory. In that victory, Louisiana-Lafayette got 242 yards rushing on the ground, including a staggering 73 yards on just two carries from Kevis Streeter. Expect the junior to get more touches this weekend.

Either way, the college football spread betting lines are out, and it’s time to make your picks. In this one, take the Rajin’ Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette.

At this point in the season it can be a misleading to look at statistics, and that’s certainly the case for Louisiana-Lafayette. None of their numbers jump out to you, mainly because they lost 55-7 in their opener at Georgia. Based on the way the Bulldogs played that day, few teams would’ve beaten them.

But to their credit, Louisiana-Lafayette bounced back, and looked good against Arkansas State. They’ve also got two huge advantages coming into this one: They’re coming off a bye week and haven’t played in 14 days. Also, they won’t have to deal with Dasher, who very well might be the best player in the Sun Belt.

Either way, all signs point toward Louisiana-Lafayette. As underdogs at home, they’re the pick you should make in this weekend’s college football spread betting.

The Pick: Louisiana-Lafayette +2 ½
