February 19, 2011
With the NBA on its All-Star break, this weekend’s Sports Betting slate focuses primarily on college basketball betting. And there aren’t many games that will bring as much excitement Saturday night as the one we’ve got here. Who’s your pick, Georgetown or South Florida?
No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas (20-6 SU, 15-10 ATS) at South Florida Bulls (8-19 SU, 13-11 ATS)

The Hoyas enter this one in a bit of an unfamiliar place; they’re coming off a loss. Georgetown had won eight in a row entering Wednesday night’s game at UConn, but couldn’t avoid a hot evening from Huskies guard Kemba Walker. The junior guard did it all, scoring 31 points and added 10 assists, as the Hoyas fell 78-70 in Hartford.
But really, despite losing for the first time since the middle of January, the Hoyas really weren’t all that bad Wednesday night. They shot 43 percent from the field, and did make eight of 21 three-point attempts. This team is only as good as its guards, and as usual they came through too. Chris Wright led the Hoyas with 19 points, while fellow senior Austin Freeman added 12 as well. Still, if Georgetown is to lock up a win Saturday, it’s important they get more production out of Freeman. He is averaging 18 points a game on the season.
As for the Hoyas Sports Betting opponents on Saturday, well what do we make of the South Florida Bulls? The Bulls enter this one having gone just 2-8 straight up in their last 10, but haven’t been terrible for bettors. They’ve covered the points in seven of those 10 games.
Ultimately what it comes down to for this team, is that they just struggle mightily putting the ball in the basket. South Florida is one of the lowest scoring teams nationally, averaging a meager 61.7 points per game, and their field goal percentage is 41.4 percent, which ranks 282nd nationally. And sadly, as good as they’ve been covering the Sports Betting odds recently, it hasn’t been because of their offense. South Florida hasn’t scored more than 60 points in six of their last seven games. Ouch!
In the end, the Hoyas may very well be the second best team in this conference behind Pitt, and really we see no reason why they shouldn’t be your Sports Betting pick here. This team is talented and experienced, with three seniors in their starting lineup, as well as emerging guard Hollis Thompson, who is coming off a 10 point effort against UConn.
There is just too much talent at Georgetown, and not nearly enough at South Florida to bet against the Hoyas in your Saturday Sports Betting picks.
