Lock in on Fixed Horse Race Betting Odds for Friday’s Brooklyn Handicap

June 4, 2010

The Belmont Stakes is this Saturday, but this Friday some very good 3-year olds will take to the Belmont Park racing strip for the Grade II Brooklyn Handicap.

The horse racing sportsbook is offering fixed odds on equines entered for the Brooklyn Handicap.  It would be a good idea for horseplayers to get down on those fixed odds right now.

Horse Racing Sportsbook:  Brooklyn Handicap

Grade II Brooklyn Handicap

$200,000

For Three Years Old and Up

1 ½ miles over dirt

  1. Tranquil Manner +1200 – - He’s going to need pace to run at and often times closers don’t get the pace that they need in order to win a 1 ½ mile race over dirt.  He doesn’t have much of a shot in this and should be going off at +1500 instead of +1200 because he just isn’t fast enough.

  1. Gabriel’s Hill +600 – -He’s never run this far.  Breeding says it won’t be a problem.  The fact that he packed it in and lost by 8 lengths at 1 mile and 70 yards says that it will.
  1. Gangbuster +500 – - Second time with Tim Ice, Kent Desormeaux on his back, and the fact that he is coming off of a victory says that he’s definitely got a shot in this race.  Of course, he’s 0 for 2 at the 1 ½ mile distance.  If you believe in Ice’s magic, he’s a good play.  I believe in Ice’s magic.

  1. Eldaafer +450 – - He won the Brooklyn Handicap in 2009 and is 3-0-2 out of 5 races over Belmont Park’s racing surface.  He also has the perfect style for this race and honestly should be the favorite as they go into the gate.  Finally, he’s coming off of a victory.  There is absolutely nothing not to like about Eldaafer. Backing Eldaafer is the horse bet to make.
  1. American Dance +300 – - On paper, it looks like he might be lone speed but can jockey John Velasquez ration his speed?  And, if he rations it too much, is he going to be far enough ahead of Eldaafer to keep that one at bay when the real racing starts?  Tough low odds to take on a horse that’s never run at 1 ½ miles before going up against some true distance horses.

  1. Stones River +800 – - He’s not really bred to excel at such a demanding distance.  Not only that but he’s been lying far back and he’s had trouble making up ground in his recent races.  If he lies far behind American Dance and Eldaafer, he’s liable to lose by about 10 lengths in this race.  Pass.
  1. Tiger’s Rock +350 – - The other Pletcher horse is coming off of a 39 ½ length loss in the Grade II Elkhorn.  It’s strange because before March 6th 2010, Tiger’s Rock had a record of 4 wins out of 7 lifetime races.  Now, it’s 4 wins out of 9 lifetime races and he’s lost his last 2 by a combined 51 ½ lengths.  What’s up with this guy?  I’m not willing to find out at low horse betting odds.

  1. Alcomo +800 – - He was thumped in his 3 races over the new Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.  Now, he returns to comfortable Belmont Park.  He and Eldaafer had a nice rivalry going last summer with Eldaafer beating him once and he beating Eldaafer twice.  Maybe, seeing his old buddy will light a fire under his horse ass.

Horse Race Betting Picks:  First – Eldaafer
                                              Second – Gangbusters
                                              Third – Alcomo

Good luck!
