Football Odds: Cincinnati Bengals (+9) vs. New York Jets (-9)
Point Total: 43
While this is a rematch of last year’s playoff game, it looks like only one of these teams can be headed for the post-season in 2011. The 8-2 New York Jets have been finding ways to win games, while the 2-8 Bengals have been finding ways to lose them.
The Jets are 6-4 ATS despite all of their recent close games. In both of their losses this season, they have only given up 10 and 9 points and are still running the ball as well as ever. Since the embarrassing 9-0 loss to Green Bay, the Jets have won three games in a row – including two on the road.
The Bengals, on the other hand, have been brutal as of late. They have lost 7 in a row straight up – only covering in one of them. Their lone ATS victory came in a back door cover against the Colts. Cincinnati was a 6.5 point dog, and covered by the half point – barring that, they haven’t had an ATS victory since Week 3 of the betting season. The NFL odds haven’t been stacked against Cincinnati – this 9-point spread is the highest they’ve encountered all season.
Thanksgiving games have traditionally featured blowouts in the last few years, and this should be more of the same. The Jets defense will be hounding Carson Palmer all day – gunning for takeaways and strips. Conversely, Mark Sanchez and his corps of strong receivers will be able to score early and often against the sagging Bengals.
Cincinnati is coming off a brutal loss (where they lead the Bills by 4 scores) and could totally crumble at this part of the season.
Follow the smart money and get on the Jets as they are poised to demolish the Bengals on the field and against the spread. When the teams met in Cincinnati last year, the Jets pulled out a 10-point victory on the road. Against a much-worse Bengals team, forced to play on the road, this game should get much more one-sided.
