Detroit Lions (0-3 SU, 2-1 ATS) at Green Bay Packers (2-1 SU, 2-1 ATS)
NFL Betting Odds:
Detroit: +14
Green Bay: -14
Total: 46
The Packers are coming off a disappointing Monday night road trip to Chicago, where they lost 20-17, and don’t have much time to prepare for this one with the quick turnaround.
Entering this one, the key for Green Bay will be to figure out their running game. Right now, it’s amongst the worst in the league, averaging just 95 yards per game. Since losing Ryan Grant for the season, Green Bay has trotted out Brandon Jackson, fullback John Kuhn and others, but nothing seems to work. The worst may have come Monday night, when Green Bay had just 63 yards rushing.
Luckily, the passing game is always strong, behind Aaron Rodgers, a big reason why Green Bay enters this one as the sports betting favorite. Rodgers is once again putting up monster numbers, as through three games, he’s completing 68 percent of his passes, and has tossed for 759 yards.
On the opposite sideline Sunday afternoon will be the woebegone Detroit Lions, who can just ever seem to get things going.
This year was supposed to be different in Detroit, but with an injury to starting quarterback Matthew Stafford in Week 1, the Lions seem to be stuck in neutral. They’re currently 0-3.
Last weekend may have been rock bottom for this franchise, as after two competitive games to open the season, they were blown out by NFC North rivals Minnesota, 24-10.
The key for Detroit is similar to Green Bay’s, simply establishing a running game. Currently, the Lions rank 31st in the league, averaging just 66 yards on the ground per contest. Rookie Jahvid Best was supposed to help in that category, but has been limited because of bad blocking up front. He had just 26 yards on the ground a week ago.
Fourteen points seems like a lot for the Packers this weekend, and because of it, should the Lions be your sports betting pick? Absolutely!
We’re not saying that the Lions will win, because it doesn’t seem likely that they will. But coming off an emotional road loss, you’ve got to wonder how excited the Packers will be to play an 0-3 Detroit team, that’s been their whipping boys in recent years. Also, the quick turnaround from a Monday night loss is tough to recover from.
Green Bay may be more talented, but emotionally, the play here is to take the Lions. They’re going to come into this one hungry for their first win of the season. While they may not get it, they’ll keep it close enough to be a winner in the sports betting.
Sports Betting Pick: Detroit +14
